having my motor done now, and need some help with o-ringing. im using a mitsu 4 layer metal head gasket, and the shop says i should run a copper o-ring on the block. i have always thought to use a metal o ring with a metal headgasket, but some people are saying you need to run copper to make it seal right. Which would be the most ideal for me to run? Need some help fast!!

Bumping your thread is against the rules, and you shouldn't really expect an answer after a few hours.

To answer your question a copper o-ring should be used with a metal gasket, and a metal o-ring should be used with a copper or composite gasket.

thanks, well actually i bumped it after almost a whole day, and it didnt even have any views. its weird, alot of people are saying do steel with a metal gasket, others say copper. some say copper wont work right, some say it will...

Everyone at the shop uses steel o-rings on the head with a MLS head gasket. I have never heard about using copper o-rings but i will ask around and try to get you some help/info

thanks, yeah im not real into o-ringing the head, def wanna do the block, but not 100% sure what to use

Copper o-rings go on metal gaskets because the copper will be able to "mesh" so to speak with the metal gasket to create the seal. You need stainless orings if you use a stock composite gasket so the oring can bight into the composite gasket and create that great seal.

Just an FWI, a member of the dsmlink boards dynoed 708whp with stainless orings and the stock composite gasket. GT42 turbo and zero loss of coolant. I favor more this way, at least the block doesnt have to be mirror finished like for use with a metal gasket.

thanks for the help, im probably gonna do copper o-rings on the block with a metal gasket
