i heard that the n/t tranny and the n/t head are the same as the turbo besides the components is this true? could somone explain the differences, would a n/t head work on a turbo with different cams

From what I've been reading the turbo and non turbo heads have different oil flow and it is not recommended in using the non turbo head on a turbo car for fear of oil starvation to turbo and motor. As far as the trns it will work but the non turbo ahs a closer gear ratio than the non turbo so you will end up rifling thru the gears on a turbo car. If you plan on running autox with it it might be something to try but for everyday driving it would be a pain cause you would be shifting allot and no taking advantage of the power at the higher end of the gears. Hope this helps. :thumb: :dsm: :talon: :laser:

The head will work just fine. You ,as you said, need your turbo cams but the heads are the same head. There is a bolt you have to take out of the n/t head where the turbo oil feed line goes and get the banjo bolt to hook up the turbo feed line. As far as the tranny you would be better off with a turbo, but I dont think a n/t would hurt it. Just as ^^^^^^said you would be going through the gaers faster.

N/T head is the same as the turbo. The N/T tranny has a slightly smaller clutch and shorter gears. The internals have not been proven to be any weaker than the turbo tranny.

if i sent a non turbo tranny to get built at shep racing. could they replace the n/t gears with turbo gears and can the smaller clutch be replaced with the same size as the turbo?

i was reading this again and my question wasnt really answered. could a NT tranny be turned into a turbo tranny? are the NT gears able to be swapped for turbo gears? and is the NT clutch and flywheel able to be swapped with the turbo clutch and flywheel? does any machining have to be done to make this work?

If you use the non turbo trans you will have to use all non turbo stuff along with it. For the exspense of having the trans built up you could buy a good used turbo trans and a lightened flywheel and a good clutch. The gears could probably be changed but some trans' have to have the input shaft changed to be able to use the gears from a different setup so if that ends up the case you'll have to go with a turbo flywheel and clutch. The person to talk to would probably be Sheppard racing to see if this would be a good route to go or the guys at TRE. Hope this helps you figure this out. :dsm:

so to answer your question, Yes you can use an N/T tranny. Yes you can have it built with turbo parts, they will fit. But the cheaper way would be to buy a turbo tranny. Used or rebuilt.

if you are going to send it away to get rebuilt, just buy a beat up turbo trans. dont waste your time with the non turbo trans. There have been a few stories over the years on this message board about nt trans failing on turbo cars.

I agree to get the turbo transmission if building it up. There have been a lot of stories of turbo trannies failing too though ROFL
