now why would any oil be here

Just took my timing belt cover off (the top plastic one) and I can see a little bit of oil on the valve cover and inside the cover (not much at all) but how would it get here?

I had that until I replaced the gasket on my oil filler cap.

Could also be a leaking valve cover gasket or front main seal. If your oil level isn't going down fast I wouldn't worry about it. Take care of it if/when you rebuild.
