Not enough oil killing turbos?

I recently switched from a small 16g to a t3 setup with my car...On the 16g I ran a restrictor because I know they don't like a lot of oil pressure and it was fine.

Now I picked up a cheapy ebay turbo that appeared to be okay- Minimal shaft play. I ran it with a restrictor about the size of the one attached. 20 miles down the road I hear a turbo grinding against the side of the housing...Sure enough, tons of shaft play. I swap it out with another cheapy because I was afraid it's something I did wrong. This was another ebay t3, but brand new that a buddy gave to me. I drove it to work today (30 miles round trip) and it ran well but when I got home and let it idle I heard a slight dinging noise. Turned the car off and heard the turbo winding down and was clearly brushing against the housing again.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong :ohdamn:

I'm just going to assume it's because they aren't getting enough oil. Before I put on the new turbo I cranked the engine over with the injectors unhooked as if I were priming a new turbo with oil. I put the feed line into a container and cranked for about 6-8 seconds. The line started dripping oil...Does that sound about right or should it be spitting oil everywhere?

Should I drill out that restrictor and run it wide open? I have a -4an line fed off the oil pressure sending unit, like most 420a guys. Any advice would be appreciated, I'm becoming very frustrated.

Update: I drilled it out for the hell of it, then started it up again. The turbo straightened itself out for the most part, but is still shot (woohoo.)

A T3 needs more oil to keep the journal bearings suspended than a 16G. A 16G prefers a low-pressure, low-volume oil source.

Always check your engine's oil pressure with the required pressure of the aftermarket turbo you're installing or you will most definitely kill it within a short period of time. Very rarely can you swap turbo brands and have no oiling troubles right out of the box....whether it's too little or too much, your turbo will die in a very short period of time.

Edit: Nevermind, I definitely figured out my problem. Assuming this is what it should be flowing like- YouTube - t3/t4 turbo oil flow no restrictor

My turbo was NOT getting enough oil. I'm going to take off my feed assembly and line and see what I can find. That video isn't mine...My turbo was barely dripping oil out of the return when I did this check.

Yeah, she should flow.

It just so happens that I forgot to bolt up the oil feed on the GSX while putting the Green on a couple of days ago (hey I'm an NA guy :p). Started her right up and shot at least three feet in the air, LOL.

So yeah, she should flow.......

^^Ha ha, that's pretty good.

Yeah I took off my oil feed, blew in one end and nothing came out :O. In the 90 degree fitting there was a chunk of rubber from when I made the hose clogging it up. I put 120psi of air in the other end and it popped out like a cork gun. Soooo yeah, found the problem. Guess next time I'll be a little more thorough when I clean out a new hose :(.

I've got a new problem now though. It's having a hard time starting/holding idle (until it warms up for a few seconds then it's fine) and it will NOT boost in any gear. I hear the turbo spooling, blow off valve opens and does it's thing, but the car is slow and won't boost at all. Any ideas?
