sooo i get in my car today and drive to the bank...
as im leaving i see my friends evo and blew past him.
when i looked down at my dash i saw that i was over heating.
i stopped, topped off my coolant, waiting 20 mins then kept driving.
it went down to normal, but when i started driving again it shot right back up.
i stopped and popped my hood again and heard a boiling sound from ym radiator hose, then i popped my coolant reservoir and my coolant was boiling...
my oil pressure remained normal

any suggestions?
water pump?
head gasket? how would i test for this?

:ohdamn: dsm's make me want to kill someone :banghead:
 
Are your fans turning on at all, that would be the first thing to check. then make sure that the coolent temp sensor isnt bad.
 
Sounds like a stuck thermostat. Had the exact same problem, ran fine when in the city, but get on the highway the temps started to rise.
 
both of my fans are spinning and my coolant is boiling inside of my reservoir, so im sure it wouldnt be the sensor...? maybe im wrong idk
 
It's just what's commonly refered to as boilover it happens to ever car when it is overheated.

It's already been said by "Kastigir" probably stuck or hung thermostat, especially if it happened all of the sudden.

Here's my question, did you have to add coolant to it regularly before the overheat problem started ?
 
it never leaked so i never had to add any coolant.

i start my car and drive and it just keeps rising and never stops.

if it is my thermo, how can i fix it?
 
Thermostat is easy under the pressure cap there is a housing with 2 bolts holding it in place with three sensors, You will need to remove that housing and remove and replace the thermostat installing a new gasket in the process.

Well, if you didn't have a blown head gasket to begin with, you've probably got one now. You need to check for leaks, clogged radiator, bad radiator cap, no air in system, and water pump before you do anything else. After you fix what caused it to overheat, then you need to do a leak-down test - you'll be very lucky to walk away from a overheat without a blown head gasket.
 
yea i was thinking about my head gasket im starting to plan out an engine rebuild so i might be doing it a little sooner than planned

This is kinda jumping to conclusions isn't it?

He hasn't even said how bad it overheated. Most of us know if it starts going past 1/2 way there's a problem.

Btw I've been in the red before by total accident on a MLS w/ ARPs and a fresh head after that nasty overheat with no warpage etc.
 
it was pinned at H and when i looked down and saw it i was at like 5krpms in 3rd, idk if i have any really serious damage..i looked for leaks and found nothing
 
I would change your thermostat out. It's very simple. After that just top off your coolant and watch your gauge. If your gauge floats around and does not stay steady, you will probably want to do a compression check on each cylinder, and see what they are reading. The compression check will tell you if your headgasket is bad.
