I tried searching and didn't find quite what I was looking for. I'm looking at these wheels

They are an 18x8.5 wheel, with a 235/40 tire to match.

I dont' know the rim offset, and I am wondering if I will have problems with rubbing, or if I will just have to roll the fenders?? If anybody knows where they can get specification on these wheels they are AZA Z-1 rims.

What is the maximum width on an 18" rim I can get under the wells without rolling the felder?

Thanks guys.

Let me get this straight ... you don't know that actual dimensions of the wheel, but you want us to tell you if they will rub ... is that about right?

Ah, well. Those zeros and ones in cyberspace weren't doing anything. Might as well give them some exercise.

Sorry dude, all I know is they are 18x18.5, I was just wondering if those would be too wide, regardless of offset. I can't find the offset of these wheels anywhere, and they are a semi-deep dish wheel.

Just thought the information I had would be enough.

Sorry.

you have to find out the offset, THEN we can give yah some help. I dont know the name of those rims. so I dunno

I can tell you 18.5 will definitely be too wide.

Sorry, couldn't let that one pass.

8.5 is okay though with the right wheel/tire combo.

Agreed. My R-compounds are on 16x8.5 with a +37 offset. As long as the tire diameter is a tad smaller than stock (e.g., 245/45/16), they are fine.

Size 18x8.5
Offset +35
Tire 235/40/18 or 225/40/18 (would rather have the 235)
Looking to drop on Tein SS. How far could I lower before I have a problem, or would i just have to roll the fenders?

Thanks for the help guys.

As long as you are not trying to really slam it. I have almost the same setup with 5mm more offset. I have mine dropped about 1.5 inches with about 1 inch "wheel gap." With less offset, you will be a little closer to the fender lip. I think with a good rolling session and a stiff suspension you will be okay but you're pushing the envelope.

That's for 235's. 225's would be an easy fit, though a little stretched on 8.5's.

The 235 tires are actually too small for 8.5" wide rims. Heck, 245 tires will work, but they angle inwards a bit... not ideal but they work. 245/35/18 tires with a 35mm offset will work in my experience. I used Dunlop SP8000s with those dimensions and with rolling the rear fenders they fit fine with plenty of clearance with the knuckles.

Of course the problem is then finding 245/35/18 tires that fit and are in your price range... bleh. The selection in this size has severely diminished in the past couple years.

There is an option for a 245/40/18 to go with this rim. I figured that would be way too wide though to fit on our cars.

with the 35 offset yes they will fit, 245/35 good tire to use, check my gallery bro. I have 19's but youll get the point. I recomend rolling your fenders, i did.

sorry for the quick crappy reply.

What? According to whom?

The following tire-makers are perfectly cool with the idea of putting 235/40/18s on a 18x8.5 wheel:

Bridgestone
Continental *
Dunlap *
Goodyear *
Kumho *
Michelin *
Pirelli *
Yokohama *

(I could not find any other makers of 235/40/18 to see what they suggest, so it's 8 of out 8 saying that a 8.5"-wide wheel is OK.)

Wondering what those asterisks next to 7 of the 8 are for? Yeah, you guessed it: these are the cases where 8.5" wide is the SUGGESTED width. Not just OK ... RECOMMENDED!

Man, I'm really starting to lose it with this list. If you don't know what you're talking about, shut the heck up!

nice car man!! thats the same color i want to get...

anyways, is yours lowered any or is that the look you got from droppin 19's on it??

car has 1 finger gap, I cant tell you how much it's dropped cause the ass that had the car befor melted the springs a little bit. the car is getting primered as i type this. I dont know if im gona keep the color, still debating. Same color or a electron blue pearl, but whatever color i choose it will have 10 coats of clear.

what color would you choose?

Originally i wanted to get mine done in this smoked color (its a custom mercedes color), since then i sorta favoured this light silver.... you mix it with a large flake & a couple coats of pearl, the car reflects the sun lika mirror.

The color your car is now works!! Electron Blue sounds cool. But i like how the body matches the rims........ don't see that alot

Don't do too many coats of clear the color will look smoke stained. :\ Cloudy if you will after like 4-5 coats.

actually after you buff it it's basicaly like taking 2 coats of clear off, and my brother paints show cars he does this all the time so no it wont look cloudy. but i have seen what your talking about but i dont use that cheap ass clear(omni).

LOL, Omni :X. I was just giving advise the paint shop told me. Thanks for clearing up.

LOL, yeah omni sucks man, use ppg w/ppg paint and use something thats called y2k primer or soemthing like that it's awesome. unless your gona paint it and sell the car quick use the cheap shit let the jackass that bought the car deal with his paint falling off later.

Sorry.

Offset is probably more important than width in determining fit. You can only go wide because why? the wheel well is only so wide. Offset dictates how far or how close the outer rim is to the fender... as well as the same of the inner rim to the chassis and suspension components.

Isn't there a newbie forum? Isn't there a signature size rule? What good are rules if they aren't applied equally?

Those should be okay with a 225/40/18 tire. You would need 5mm spacers for a 235/40/18 tire.

Well I just found out that the rims are 18x7.5 with a 48+ offset. I have 225/40/18 tire. Will this work? What size spacers would I need? Also would I have to get different lug bolts?

You won't need spacers with those tires. You may need lug nuts depending on your wheels.
