Holset HX35 in bolt-on housing. Capable of 500+whp, spools as fast as your 16g, and they can be had for under $500 including the BEP bolt-on housing. $440 shipped for mine. And they last forever.
 
I also say go for a holset, best value for money.

ACTUALLY, best value for money would be a rebuilt turbo done by someone you trust (NEVER just buy a Jo Schmo rebuild...that's an accident waiting to happen).

And again...Jusmx141 here on Tuners. He buys, rebuilds (All genuine Garrett parts), and resells. And best of all...HE 100% STANDS BEHIND HIS WORK!

There is not one person on here that I respect and trust more with my car than him. He knows his shit.
 
dont really know about the capabilities of turbo's besides the 16g 18g and the 20g. i have a grand to put down on a turbo just wondering what is the best turbo in that price range or some options i can look at?
First of all, what are your goals? We can't recommend a good turbo for you if we have no idea how far you want to go with your car.

Concerning reliability, the Mitsu turbos you've listed above are probably the most reliable choices that remain 100% bolt-on. There are more than 10 different types of possible turbine / compressor combos available in the 20G, making it quite the versatile beast!

Most of the popular turbo upgrades for our cars these days are Garrett-based, and I'm not too impressed with their durability and potential. The only way you're going to make a Garrett-based turbo flow up to it's potential is in a T3 turbine housing...the Mitsu bolt-on housings made by any company other than FP and Bullseye will actually hinder the turbo's overall potential to generate airflow.

Holsets are a great choice. Durable, affordable, and they have insane potential while remaining fairly quick-spooling.

I also say go for a holset, best value for money.

I just built a HX35 with a new Mitsu turbine housing for a customer who will have under $600 total in a turbo with a fresh rebuild that will spool as fast as a 16G, generate as much airflow as a 60-1, and outlast any Garrett turbo on the market. You can't go wrong.

Ah yes, the SCM6152E with the damaged turbine. It's still here...I'm waiting until I find someone interested before I track down a turbine for it. The turbo's ready to roll aside from the turbine- I just don't have the money to put into a turbine and let the turbo sit on the shelf until it sells.

Despite what Christi said, I'm not planning on using it on any of my own cars. I'm not a huge Precision fan these days.
 
my sorsepower goals im looking for around 400. so for around 1000$ what in your opinion would be the best turbo for me like i said im new to these holset and garret's. and best as in reliable also.
Holset HX35 or some variation of a 20G.

Don't even think about a GT35R at this stage in the game.
 
the 35r kinda depends on the condition of your motor too. honestly it would be overkill, plus the hx35 spools better. honestly mhi turbos are pretty solid and so is the hx35 so I'd say either a 20g or an hx35
