hey first off im postin here because im not a member of any other forums and besides that i think they all suck. my eclipse is far to built to drive all the time so of course i have a daily driver. my dd is a 95 Mazda MX-3. its got awsome condition body and interior. its not the v6 model(thankfully) but the 1600cc double cam engine.

the car is so nice but the 150k 15year old motor doesnt have any power to pass or even as much as speed a tiny bit goin up hills. its weak sauce. so i thought about riggin some old dsm stuff into a homemade turbo kit. 14b turbo, 2g fuel pump, 2gintercooler, so on and so on. but the 150k engine that smokes a bit when its cold isnt gonna last long under boosted conditions.

so did some research and found out about whats called a mazda bp-t. the bp-turbo engine is 1.8L double cam factory turbo. i guess its 8 to 1 compression and has a factory 195 horse. not bad. so i called a jdm engine depot called foreign engine exchange about 2hours from where i live. they have this engine in stock. said they have two of 'em. its $1950

i really want this but before i throw 2grand at my mazda i thought id ask some opinions from you guys. any one out here have any experience with mazda bp series of engines? any one done this swap?

its a mazda.... will it bolt to your trans? how mach fab work will be involved?

I have a bud with a mazda protgee (?) speed tubo (factory turbo) its about more headaches than anything else.. and its built, you may call it fully built.. but in the crew I tend to run with its a std style rebuild, Forged pistions, Hbeam rods, ARB head and main, balanced and PnP head... just no surpporting hardweare to tue with,, but its is an odd ball car to start...

the mazda mx-3 is actually a sweet lil car to drive, it reminds me of hondas version of civic. and the round sporty styling of the inside is awsome. its WAY more comfy to drive than my 2g, the mx3 is bone stock factory everything no mods just maitnence. air conditioner blows ice cycles. damn thing lacks power tho. i really love this lil car. owned it about a year in a half now, and its never broke down or left me stranded. id drive the thing across the country right now, problem is it'd be boring to do it with only 95hp. guys think im greedy for wantin more power out of a lil dd car? should i leave well enough alone and not fix whats not broken? i could easily afford the bp-t engine swap, but yeah whats involved? tranny bolt up? wiring? ecu? i guesse more research is what i should do. im not lookin to "build" the mx3. im happy with stock but 95hp, c'mon.... i think easyest and most reliable way to get more power is bpt engine swap and leave that engine stock with no mods just reliable. go from a factory rated 95hp to a factory rated 195hp would be pretty sweet tho dont ya think?

I have a ford probe, which has the mazda FS-de 2.0 Liter in it.
From what I know about most older mazdas in general are lack of supporting mods and aftermarket support.
Also the BPT is more likely closer to 180 stock horse power, I think youd have better luck with the klze engine which is closer to 200 ponies stock.

Im definitely not trying to put u down tho, go for it if ya want and more power to ya.

But the BPT is a turbocharged engine, with a turbo more things could go wrong with it.

The KLZE however is a N/A engine, with 20 extra horsepower.
Itd probably be more reliable and easier on repairs than a turbo charged engine.

N who knows, just imagine what you could do with a turbocharge KL-ZE

the v6 swap in the mazda requires engine mount fabrication wouldnt it? the motor ## talkin about isnt the 1.8v6 but the 2.5correct? that would require tranny to for sure right? bp-t i might have chances of keepin my factory tranny. its kinda weired thinkin bout mods for shit other than dsm ...

The BPT was a potential candidate for my sleeper 93 ford escort. I remember hearing good things about that motor.

If I were you I'd slam a new water pump + timing belt on that motor before you swapped it in. That is - if it bolts up.
You'll have better luck reading up on a Mazda forum about swaps. They do suck, but you just gotta dig.
