Non-functioning factory radio/CD player

I just got my 1992 TSi and the radio/CD doesn't work. I figured it was just a fuse but the fuse is fine. Last night I noticed that when I make hard left turns the radio/cd gets power and lights up. As soon as my direction straightens out, it goes dead again. I haven't pulled them out of the dash yet, my inclination is that the ground is loose. I figured I'd ask around here and find out if this is a common problem and maybe save myself some work. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

It might be a ground issue but the factory radios also tend to bad solder joints on the power connectors and outputs. The factory radio grounds via the mount so make sure the radio is tight in the bracket and that the four screws on the bracket into the center console are tight.

So I haven't dug into my console yet but something strange happened. After replacing a bad bulb in my rear drivers tail cluster (the bad light was cracked and filled with water) my radio.CD lights up but doesn't do anything beyond that, does that make any sense to anyone?
