I have been having a real problem with the tail light rattling against my hatch glass lately and I do not think there is a spot to tighten so it does not rattle. It is not a huge problem, just a large annoyance and something that is very noticable and loud. It makes me feel like my car is kind of a piece and when people ride with me they sometimes complain about how loud it is in the back. I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem and if there was somehow to fix it. I did a quick search, but I did not find anything that really appealed to me, but if there is a thread, point me to it and close this one.

Thanks for your time.

Mandatory to have what? you mean the tail light? Ummmm......actually I think it is mandatory to have that. I'm just sayin...........

I'm pretty sure he is talking about the 3rd brake light that is attached to the hatch and that thing rattles like a mofo. Read his post and you would know what he is talking about instead of trying to mock me

I am talking about the third brake light which is inside the car at the back of the hatch. If no one gives me any suggestions besides taking it off I do believe that is what I will do, as long as it does not look too bad in the hatch with it off.

Go to Home Depot, get some black adhesive-backed thin rubber weather stripping, uninstall the light, then put it areounf the perimiter and it should fit like a glove, also put some of thast weather stripping wherever the housing touches the polastic hatch panel on the trunk. Looks clean and stock and will stop the rattleing, had it like that until I decided to completely take it off.

my bad, i guess i misunderstood the post. Didn't mean to mock.

Tonight I just decided to take it off so after about twenty minutes it was done. It looks okay without it back there, actually, I think I like it better without. My only problem is now I realized that some of the squeeking is also from my strut bar not letting my hatch cover go all the way down so it just kind of screetches the whole time. Any solution to that besides removing either the strut bar or the hatch cover?

You sure it's the strut bar? My hatch has a very annoying skreech/rattle at times, but it is one of the metal clips that goes in the top inside of the hatch, that holds the plastic trim(that you removed to get the light off) on.

most states require you to have a 3rd brake light. Good luck driving around without one.
Never heard of that one but who knows I live in Oklahoma they don't care about crap around here.

Ever notice that every car on the road has 2 tail lights (with brake lights in them) and a 3rd brake light mounted either in a spoiler, or in the rear window?
Theres a reason for this.

You may be able to get away with depending where you are, and if cops notice. Also depending where you get the car inspected, it won't pass.

Some ppl are just too worried about the little stupid laws that people don't enforce  I'm so glad I live in OK none of my cars have a 3rd brake light and I haven't got any hassle from cops. I wouldn't worry about it if a cop ask just say it wasnt there when you bought it they can't prove you wrong. If they make you go get it checked out then put it back on and get checked, go back home and rip it off again.
