alright so i just bought a 92 talon tsi ive been researching for about three days and can't seem to figure out the problem. i was driving about 35 and my car just started running horribly so i stopped checked the ic piping and what not couldnt figure it out i took it to my friends we checked out everything so i figured maybe its the plugs. i took off wire to the second one from the left which i belive is three and the car ran exactly the same. i replaced the coil pack got new plugs and just put new wires on and i also tried to put some old wires on and see if it made a difference switched them around a bit and still no better. so what i know for sure is that number 3 cylinder isnt firing. i can still drive it but the idle is low and its rough with no power so i stopped driving it. but now im out of luck and thinking about taking it to a mechanic and i dont want to do that. i took out the ecu and everything looked fine and it smelt not like rotten eggs. i checked connections everywhere and nothing was unplugged. ive had a cel since i got it but i dont have a volt meter to check the cel. thats what i plan on doing next. but any suggestions for now? i tried to find it on the forums but its been three days and i figured its time to post something.
from what i know the cars basically stock it has a switch for the fuel pump so maybe a different fuel pump but other than that just a mbc. thanks for the advice sorry if this is already posted. if so please post link:talon::

Remove that spark plug completely and then plug it back into the spark plug wire. Have someone turn the car over while your grounding the spark plug to the valve cover (with it plugged into the wire) and check for spark. My guess is that you are in fact getting spark and you just wasted a few $$$ on trying to fix something that wasn't broke...

To me it sounds like your getting spark on your #3 cylinder and the fuel injector stopped working or is clogged. You can easily pull the fuel rail (3 - 12mm bolts) and swap that fuel injector over to the 4 spot and see if the problem moves to that cylinder.

These cars use a waste-spark system. 2 coils for 4 plugs. 1&4 fire together and 2&3 fire together. If it was a coil or wiring a pair of cylinders would be out. So check for spark again, using an inline spark tester. If you have spark, check your injectors.

It pretty hard to understand his post. Everything is writen in one big paragraph. Anyhow, take everyones advice and give us feedback to see what works for you. All of us would like to help you out.

alright ill try that tommorrow ive been working alot so havent had to much time to mess with it. but i will update as soon as i get to do some work on it. thanks alot for the advice

just tried swapping injectors. didn't help. i dont have the right size socket with me at the time to check the plugs but even when i take off the number 3 cylinder wire it doesnt change anything. but ill check the plugs next and ill be back to update. thanks again

You need to confirm spark on ALL four cylinders by pulling EACH plug one at a time and turning the engine over while your grounding the plug. Just hold onto the rubber portion of the plug wire so you don't zap yourself trying to do it, write down your results if you have to.
After you verify spark on all (4) cylinders check that the fuel injectors are functioning like they should. Pull your cam angle sensor (CAS) and with the key in the "ON" position spin it with your finger. When you spin it listen for your injectors clicking, you can even pull off the connector going to the back of each one so you can tell exactly which ones working or not. NOTE the position of the CAS when you remove it because you need to install it the EXACT same way it was.
If your uncomfortable doing the above and you know how to use a digital multimeter (DMM) you can test the resistor pack on the firewall, its just a resistance check. 1g Resistor Pack

check the power tranisitor attached to the head of the car to the left of the intake right under the coil packs. I just recently had it go out and it quit firing on cylinders 2 and 3 there kinda pricy though when it comes to gettin from an auto parts store

ya sounds like an ecu problem the power transistor should screw up on cylinder 2 too so varify that cylinder two has good spark then verify you got a good coil by testing the power and switching ground if your getting bad feed then most likely its ecu or wiring

fixed! it was the power transistor found someone with a gsx swapped the transistor and bam works just like new. thank you guys for helping out!

hi so maybe someone can help me too.

i swaped my old motor out with a newer motor and used basically all my old stuff from my other motor. worked fine before firing and what nit juss had bad compression.

did the swap and drove it up and down the road didnt feel any power. thought timing was a little off so me and my friend time it. timing was fine.

i brought it to mechanic to get my exhaust on and he ended up calling me and saying that ii have no spark to cyl 2 and cyl 3.

so our second guess was either faulty injectors to cyl 2 and cyl 3. or either bad coil pack or bad wires, plugs, or the power transistor.

bought new wires, plugs and coil pack. and bought used power transistor off someone. turned out to be a bad power transistor

my best guess is power transistor. juss sucks cause its 180 some odd dollars from the dealer. im on baystatedsm and seems like no one replys when your in need.

can someone tell me if this sounds like a power transistor deal? thanks guys
