OK guys. Just bought a 99' gs. The kid before me replaced the head gasket and when finished the repair, No spark.

heres what i checked.
- Coil pack
- Fuses
- Its getting fuel
- Crank sensor
- Cam sensor

Im checking everything and more....and its starting to become a PITA
any ideas at all?

try wiggle the ecu wiring , a friend of mine wasnt getting spark on his 420a and we checked everything.we niticed that the wiring didnt look tight so i wiggled it in and the cars been running ever since, i figured i throw that in there, sometimes its always the least expected

thers a long aluminum sencer bolted to the fire wall, i forgot what its called , my friends 95 gst had no spark and he checked the ignition module, crank and cam sencer, coil pack , plug and wires ,no codes , the guy at the shop changed it and then he had spark , if any one nows what this is called let me no but i bet thats whats wrong with your car if you checked everything else,

today we checked all the wiring of the sensors and it all checked ok, the voltages were all right as the manuals said and were steady , now I have the 12 volts on the cable to the ignition coil, but no spark , I appreciate your help, been 4 months without my car and im getting crazy XD, thanks for your help again

go to google and type in eclipse cps or cas in images you can usually find a pic of there location

420 crank sensors are on on the firewall side of the engine in the block right behind the balancer pulley. Its bolted in with one bolt.

Cam sensor is on the back of the head bolted on with two bolts and a two wire plug. Its a circular looking sensor.

I am getting spark to 2 and 3 but not 1 and 4. I have changed the coilpack, plugs and wires, crank positioning sensor, camshaft positioning sensor, new battery, asd relay. I checked all wires on the circuit with a DMM. Wires are good from ecu to coilpack, coilpack to ground, ecu and ground to cas and cps. I bought a new ecu and it still doesnt work. I polished all the grounds for the ecu and the ground to the block. I am at a loss and I am going insane. Sick of spending money, someone please help. Could the VSS or the knock sensor be the problem aswell? Do eclipse' start with only 2 of them firing and then kick in once running or pressing gas? Anyone know?

How are you testing for spark?
Might as well check your knock sensor if you haven't.
What plugs and wires are you using are they brand new? Did you check their resistance?
Do you have any CEL
What happens when you turn the engine over?

Check the wiring from the coil pack to wiring harness. Also check the wiring to the crank and cam sensor. Knock sensor will cause no problem at start up.

I am testing for spark directly through thru a coilpack with a multimeter. And I get a pulse and yes I checked the plugwires resistance, all 4 checked good. I also pluged the wires in an grounded a sparkplug to the manifold and put near the wires to see ifbitnwould arc. The same ones that arc are the ones that tested good at the coilpack with the multimeter. Plugs and wires are bosch platinums.
I do have a check engine light and i have had the light a month before this occured. It was an emission code for my purge selonoid
When I crank the engine. The engne turnes it just doesnt pick up and go. Like it doesnt start a combustion. I checked the compression of them aswell they all were dead at 100.( a little low, but I dont see it being a problem)

Are your plugs getting fuel?
Is your timing correct. 100%
What happened to make your car not run?
It seems to me you have replaced about everything electrical.

Also your compression is low. Maybe you have a headgasket issue or bad rings.

Take a plug and the plug wire connected to it and put it to the valve cover or somewhere metal and have someone crank the car, look for spark. Do this for all 4 plugs.
I am trying to think of ideas.
But basically you need air, fuel, and spark. Eliminate each and what goes with those. Be sure to check timing.

Again the wiring from coil pack to the wiring harness. There is a factory bulletin on this issue. Also bulletin on wring from the crank sensor to wiring harness due to heat soaked wiring. Your complaint and issues are in line with your problems.

Okay, if the coil has power in the primary ignition CIrcuit, then it's the secondary circuit ( ie, coil pack, plug wires, or spark plug issues...) get a multimeter, and every plug wire should be 8-10 kilo Ohms per foot. If your spark plugs are sevicable replace your coil pack.... Gotta love waste spark

Check the wiring harness there is another plug identical in look/length on that side of the motor and is easily mistaken for one another if the head has ever been removed.

Hope this helps?

Placed a ohm meter from crank sensor pigtail to wiring harnes. Pulling a .1 ohm. Good resistance on it. No problem there. As long as the wires are .1- .3 in resistance it should fire no problen. Did the same thing with harness to coilpack. Didnt find a problem
