No Sound At All from Dash Speakers

Hey everyone ive got a little question for ya. I noticed that my front speakers were only getting the mids and lows so i took out the dash speakers to see if they were connected. Turns out that they are still connected right there when you take the speaker out. That must mean that they are disconnected elsewhere for them to put out no sound whatsoever. Well Where could this disconnection have occurred? Possibly at the amp? or perhaps the deck. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

If you think there's apossibility there disconnected at the deck just pop off the side panel under the dash and check

Stock deck or aftermarket?

Factory infinity amp? Aftermarket amp?

If it has the infinity system, has the amp been bypassed?

Did the tweeters ever work?

Do you own a multimeter?

Damn this kind of stuff always comes up. I have a very helpful write-up in the tech section, and reply to these kind of threads a few times a month.

if everything is "connected", and this isnt some catastrophic issue in the wiring (usually its not because ive seen plenty of 2gs used and abused and the sound wiring has always been fine unless they purposely mess it up).. I'm assuming you have an aftermarket deck installed.. this means you bypassed the stock infinity amp already and why your dash speakers dont work, and why you have no highs and the sound field sucks.

and you might say, "but i have the stock amp connected" yea the big harness maybe connected, but removing the stock deck means you removed the proprietary din cable that sends the output signal for the amp to process and split within the door and dash speakers (the built in xover in the amp).

then youll say, "well how come the door and rear speakers still work connected to the harness behind the stereo?" well the 2g system is wired parallel, for those unfortunate NT owners who got no options at all.

if this doesnt apply to you and the entire audio is stock.. well look under the passenger seat make sure the stock amp is actually plugged in, and the DIN cable, if so, check the stock deck and make sure the other ends are connected to it.

Not necessarily true. As I'm sure you're aware, they do make integration harnesses that don't require bypassing the amp.

of course i do, i just didn't feel like typing what ive been typing for the past several years until he came back with more info.

but if his dash speakers were not working, chances are he didn't have the MITAH adapter harness to begin with.

If he does, then he would have to go what i mentioned (the obvious) by checking to make sure non of the cables came loose, the amp is still alive, the dash speakers are still ok. very unlikely.. im always trying to assume the obvious that most 2g owners who upgrade their deck do.. which is install the new deck via install harness, which automatically bypass the amp.

I was all for keeping the stock amp in place and having it power the speakers, but after hearing comparisons plenty of times, aftermarket deck power "seems" to be stronger and cleaner. I say seems because there is no hard evidence to show how much rms wattage that stock amp puts out. but listening to a deck powered system with components wired up front which will be a better direct comparison to stock setup, its clear what your ears will say sound better. for the longest time i unfairly always said even amp powering the speakers sounds better, just because ive always only been comparing it again a deck just wired regularly meaning no dash speakers.

spend less and dont get that MITAH adapter and use the money towards component speakers to have the dash speakers working properly and utilize the deck power you paid for to begin with (now that you think of it people who use the MITAH adapter with their aftermarket deck completely waste half of why you paid for it, the supposed cleaner/more power. no high voltage 4v+ rca outputs will help with our aging stock amps.. infinity or not.

Alright to clarify a little bit more. Its a stock stereo with the infinity stock amp. No aftermarket HU or amp are installed. I picked the car up about a two weeks ago and i just noticed the other day that there wasnt any actual highs coming from the front of the car. Checked out the wiring to the dash speakers and they are still connected. I wasnt sure where to check along the route to the amp or whatever to see if there was a disconnect. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

The wires for the dash tweets on my GS went into the DOOR and connected there into the harness. I didnt have the infinity amp though in the GS, but it had the tweeters in the dash.

You need to find the wires for the tweeters at the amp or the head unit. Once you find them strip some of the wire back and touch them to a TONE GENERATOR if your here a BEEP through the tweeters then they are fine and the wire is connected.

You can also use a 9v or a 6v battery and touch that to the tweeter wire.
If they make a POP sound then the wire and tweeters are fine.

UPDATE: I have removed the stereo enough to see the wires and it appears that all the harnesses are plugged in and no remaining spots are available for a plug on the factory stereo unit. Also i removed the door panel and looked at the speakers and it does not seem that the wires for the front speakers are dash speakers are there or connect there. Once again this is a stock infinity system in a 1995 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD. Idk if the year and models matter but there it is for ya. Im just looking to get my highs back!

If they were blown though wouldnt there be some sound still coming from them? My experience with blown speakers is that they just sound like absolute sh** when they are blown. Distortion and whatnot

yes i did read the tweet thread and just went ahead and did that just now. It is working now. I just thought there would be an easier way or that they should work with the original white plug but guess not. Oh well they are working now and thats all that matters!
