Aftermarket speakers all around. Poor sound.

I purchased the car like this. Not sure why it doesn't sound better. 200 watt head unit. 4.5" rockford fosgates in doors, 6x9 pioneer speakers in rear. FWD tweater speakers have been removed, just wires dangling up there.

I know the wiring for the fwd speakers is split. Will this split the wattage going to the door speakers? I have little to no bass without distortion. I have 80% faded to the rear just to make it tolerable.

Even the pioneer 6x9's have very poor bass.

I'm guessing the 6x9's are possibly to high of wattage? I had identical door speakers in my rx-7 and they sounded great. Also had 50 watts going to each.

Any help appreciated.

I would start by pulling the head unit or speakers and make sure the aren't wired back words. If they are the will pull instead of pushing and this will cause distorted bass. Second the Rockfords definitely need to be amped to sound right. They should have a max wattage on the back. The split wires shouldn't matter plus you said there are no tweeters hooked up to split the ohms any way. Hope this helps.
 
A good quality amplifier can make all the difference in the world. Even though your head unit is rated for 200W total output it is unlikely that it is actually putting out that much. And what it does put out may not be a "clean" signal.

Invest in a high quality 4 channel amp.

As mentioned, make sure the speakers are not wired out of phase.
 
I was thinking there may be some sort of resistor in the wiring to limit current for each of the front speakers. If it's just a straight shoot I should be good there!

I'll double check the pos and neg wiring. I asssume I'll be able to find wiring color codes through the search.

Just to clarify, a speaker should work regardless of which post is hooked up to positive and negative. But it's important to make sure that the other speaker of the pair (and in the rest of the system) is wired the same way. Otherwise one speaker will be pushing while the other one is pulling and the bass waves will cancel each other out.
 
Another reason you might say they suck is because without tweeters up in the original location, the sound field SUCKS, and the rear speakers are over powering the sound field.

I've been in this situation.

I first just got speakers for the doors and 6x9s and left the dash speakers/tweeters out and used the deck to power them. It was horrible.

Get components and/or get an amp as well to power the speakers.

Remember when you watch a movie or go to a concert, where is the sound coming from? The front or the back ;)

My now-deceased 93 GS had dash speakers which were 12-ohm, and door speakers which were 3-ohm. Like 10 years ago, I did the equation (which I now forget) and came-up with 4-ohms. That makes sense. The other day I was cramming some pioneer 6x9s in the back of my 92 GST. I pulled one of the dash speakers (my OE rears were already gone) to check the terminals for which one is +/-. I noticed that it was an 8-ohm speaker. That would mean that the 92 had 8-ohm door and dash speakers, 93 had 3-ohm/12-ohm pairings. That would mean the dash speakers are taking less power/heat relative to the door speakers than in the 2 8-ohm pairing. Both sum to 4-ohms total, with the 12/3 pairing, the doors, which can handle more power, get more power. If your dash speakers ARE 12-ohm, I'd leave the originals in there, and connect them up with the 4-ohm door speakers using the factory wiring.

That's interesting. But my dash speakers were blown, thats why I took them out and left the dash empty.

So now I have all 4 amp speakers to deal with. (well 6x9s are 3ohm)
