No Reverse no neutral after trans build! Help!

I guess the problems both no reverse and moving in neutral like guitarkid said.. sorry..I'm tryin to help but I'm running around and using my phone in between .. yeah the linkage..the valve body..the rear clutch assembly..the park mechanism.. all can cause or contribute to what's happening...

Also..your problem isn't that you have no reverse it's that you move in park and neutral..

It could be your linkage (checked)
Your valve body (checked)
Rear clutch
Rear piston
Park mechanism

Check those..

Where is the park mechanism? And I am assuming the rear piston is inside the side cover next to the rear clutch.

The park mechanism is located under the valve body. It is attached to the case and the manual control shaft and when you shift to park it locks everything up. I don't remember the exact component it locks into but you can see how a lever with a spring activates a block that prevents the output shaft and center assembly from rotating.

The rear clutch assembly is inside the case behind the oilpump and the front clutch. Pretty much a full teardown required there.. that's why I really hoped you'd find something in the valve body. Do you have a manual? Did you see my link?

Car is going in to park now. Seems as if reverse is neutral though. Can someone post a more detailed way to set the linkage? I'm 99% I am doing it correctly and at least it's doing something now. The diagram doesn't make it very clear but I think I understand it..

I tore the entire v body down, recleaned it, triple checked all torque specs, body is 100% assembled correctly.

Feeling like such a noob right now... LOL car runs excellent no boost leaks at all. Just need to back it out of the garage to fully tune :)

Well I just realized I can't push the car back in neutral or any of the positions... I never tried to while it was in park though. Any reason why the car would feel locked up and not roll backwards? This is so annoying... Did my TCU go back overnight for no reason?

That's the front clutch that you're talking about. I guess it's getting a full tear down tonight... From my research the pump could be misaligned.

What's the front clutch I'm talking about? The rear clutch that's behind the front clutch? Nope that's the rear clutch I'm talking about. I don't want to confuse things anymore though so I'm gonna leave you to your research. Good luck bro! your car is sweet hope you get it figured out!

Front clutch I'm talking about in by the pump and such. Rear clutch is accessible without removing the trans through the wheel well.

Thanks man I'm pulling the trans today. Needs to get done.

Need to run some 10 second passes :D

Subscribed for outcome. I don't want to make the same mistake :)

Since nobody has a straight answer I am going to pull the trans right now. Luckily the car could never back up so hopefully I didn't damage anything. If it would have been the other way in the garage I would have been driving it awhile until I realized the trans had issues. 11secdsm had a similar issue to me. Same thing actually. Was the alignment of the clutches. I've been trying to contact him to figure out exactly what he did, when it's resolved I will let everyone know what happened.

Ah I see. I know that the steels are missing a tooth that need to be lined up properly in the basket.

I'm not 100% sure what this means :idontknow: LOL

I'm sure I'll figure it out or someone can help me out. Trans should be all out and apart by midnight. Going after it once I'm off work.

The END clutch is located on the outside of the trans. In the passenger wheel well. You honestly sound as though you are having more of an internal trans issue, rather than the shifter not being correct. I spent awhile trouble shooting the shifter cable.

So the car moves in all the other gears?

I would advise not starting the engine until you get that shifter figured out.

The clutches really only sit one way. & are symmetrical.

Yes that's exactly what I thought. No the car doesn't go/do anything in reverse. Originally it still wanted to move in park however this is no longer a issue.

The car has only been idled for around 10 minutes total. So no damage has been done I am hoping. Otherwise looks like I'm buying another set from Kiggly.

The shifter is set up perfectly and is working with the manual valve. I have looked it over 20 times and from everything I can tell it was correct from the get go and my issue has been internal the entire time. The valve body has also completely been disassembled for a second time and I reinstalled everything. I was just hoping it was easy not wanting to pull the trans again I guess LOL

Working on it at 8pm when I am off of work, I will share pictures if I find a clear issues and let everyone know what I did to fix it.

This thread is confusing.

Indeed it is. I'll try to make a post that makes more sense when I'm done.

I'm sorry this is my first auto trans DSM and my first time trying to work on an auto trans as well. I'm kinda learning what things are called as I go.

If I'm not mistaken the front clutch piston has two oil ports. That is where you line up the missing teeth. The missing teeth are for cooling purposes.

Now that I think about it the piston has a bunch of holes and it shouldn't matter.

Srry been very busy lately with my transmission it's finnaly getting put back In today
Heres a picture of some things to go over from the fsm it's not gonna be all the awnsers but it may help

You should have reverse even without a tcu
How's everything going so far?

Time to install a transmission should be a blast

Do you know if I can reuse the pump gasket? It's in perfect shape and has 5 or 10 minutes of idle time but I'm not sure. Have a new one in the mail but in a hurry to make the car move.

Anything I need to line up internally like these oil holes? I have the front clutches out now.

I'm really just going off the fsm but you may want to buy an overhaul manual because it tells you exactly where to put everything here's some pictures of alignment spots of the oil ports .
if you find a fsm online I'd follow it religiously it will tell exactly what you need to know

Just take your time,
measure twice cut once
Also I'd wait for the seal unless you wanna potentially drop the transmission again LOL

Keep er going I give you props for droping your transmission a bunch of times (it's alot harder to install than to rip it out)
I had a fun time installing my trans today not fun but I should have used a trandmission jack hah
