I recently installed a end clutch kit the other day. When I took it out for a drive for the first time everything seemed great . When I got home I noticed a odd oder and realized my tranny was leaking. Today I put it up on jack stands to figuare out where the leak was coming from. I traced to the end clutch rubber seal gasket. I removed the sensors and cover and replaced the seal with my old one and it solved the issue after putting in 2 1/2 quarts of tranny fluid to bring it back to full. This is when I noticed i didnt have reverse!!! I have Park, nutruel, drive, drive2 and drive 1 but no reverse. After messing with it for a while I noticed that If I put the car in drive and imedialty put in in reverse.. reverse engages. But if I let it sit in drive for about 3 seconds and then put it in reverse I have no reverse.. Im so confused!!!

WOW... no one has any ideas?

I swapped out valve bodys yesterday to see if the problem went away and nope still did it. I took it out for a drive to verify that all my gears were working properly.. which they were. When I got back to the house reverse started to work properly. I assumed maybe trans fluid needed to be run through all the gears or something. About an hour later I went outside to roll up the windows and just for kicks I cranked the car on just to make sure it was working... nope back to my problem.. will only go in reverse If I drop it into drive then imidiatly put in in reverse... what can this be???

Here's something I just found on reverse:

Installing an end clutch kit definitely won't help the 2-3 shift.

A 2-3 shift problem is related to valve body calibration, usually in conjunction with a worn out trans.

If a vehicle was driven for a while like this, it surely has internal damage that will only get worse over time.

The front clutch (third gear clutch) is also used to get reverse, so a delayed engagement into reverse and possible loss of reverse can also be a symptom.
