No Reverse after clutch job

I just put a new clutch in my 1g awd and when to make sure gears were all good. They are good all the way through 5th. But when I got into where reverse should be it rolls forward as if it were in 4th or 2nd. I took off the one linkage when I dropped the tranny to make sure I didn't bend or break it so I think it has something to do with this. Any ideas?
 
Does it go into reverse at all? Did you remove the reverse gear sensor ? When I had my reverse gear sensor replaced the guy forgot to install a washer that comes with it, as a result I could not get the car in reverse and if I really forced the reverse gear in it would not come out of it.
 
may sound stupid, but I had something similar happen. Is the rubber sleeve over the shift linkage holding on? the crimp on mine broke so shifting into reverse wasnt happening. a quick change of a new clamp to hold the rubber piece still fixed it all.
 
It stopped mine. I am not saying this is your case but it would be worth looking at. Inside the transmission there's a metal tab that when you put the reverse gear on engages a mechanical switch. If the switch is screwed too deep the tab hits the body of the sensor rather than it retractable tip and doesn't go into gear or if it goes it may get stuck. This is how it was explained to me. All it took was to add the specific washer and it worked.
 
The only way to find out if its internal (transmission) or external is to remove the shift linkages and move the levers with your hand. I'm pretty sure in your case you have to pull up and then right while holding up. If it feels like it engages then its your linkage. If it feels like there's nothing there then youd have an internal issue. Reverse and fifth have a fork that holds on to two dowels so I doubt its the fork. And it can't be a synchro because the reverse gear is by itself at the bottom of the transmission. There is however a small odly shaped fork that attaches to to the the same dowel as fifth gear. Chances are it could of slipt out. But first find out if its internal or external
