After getting my 90 tsi, I noticed that the rear wheels are not working. I have put the car on jack stands and then put it in gear and the rear does not move. The drive shaft will spin to the rear, but the wheels dont move. The car is just front wheel drive. I have spun the rear by hand and it acts like there is not a diff in the rear. each rear wheel will spin freely by hand, but when I spin one the other does not rotate like a normal diff would. When spun there is no noise from the rear. I have been driving the car and it drives fine, just fwd right now. Has anyone run across this? could it be the rear is out  I have asked local so called DSM tuners, and they are clueless. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...

Seriously though, if the shaft from the transfer case to the rear diff is turning but nether half shaft from the rear diff to the rear wheels turns, I'd say either your rear diff is toast or you have the only rear diff selectable 2wd/4wd Talon in history. I can tell you no factory car ever came that way. But who knows - if your lucky (or unlucky) maybe someone put in some wierd rear end from a non dsm and you haven't figured out how to engage it? Ya right - not very likely - I'd get ready for an outlay of money or live with fwd.

dang...I know im a noob, but I still need the help none the less. I thought I would get a few more ideas. Rallye thanks for the thought. I am getting a complete parts car, so I will replace the drivetrain. I would think that would solve the problem :talon:
