My A/C hasn't been working since I got the car and I finally decided to check it out. After taking it to a shop to have them evacuate and recharge only to have the mechanic butcher my wires trying to give power to the compressor  I took the car back before they could do any more damage and decided to investigate myself since it seems like a deeper problem than just needing a recharge.

I am able to turn the AC Clutch on manually by connecting power to it, but it does not turn on when I press the AC switch on the console. Swapped relays and everything checked out fine there. Did some probing and discovered that the AC switch is not sending a signal to the relay to turn the compressor on. I'm about to take the switch off and check the pins to make sure it is good and continuity is in the right places. Has anyone had a bad AC switch or had a similar problem where the relay wasn't getting a signal?

Thanks

Okay, I bought a manifold gauge like the one in the manual since it is cheaper than paying anyone to test it. The AC switch works fine and I the magnetic clutch goes off when I add a jumper on the relay. The relay still does not switch on the compressor. When I loaded the refrigerant (I had the jumper installed on the relay to activate the clutch), the low side is fine, but I am getting a low reading on the high pressure side. So am I to conclude that my AC compressor is toast and I need a new one?

Thanks

Thanks. Lots of good information in that thread. I don't know how I missed it in my search. I also jumped the dual pressure switch, so hopefully I'm getting close to find the problem. I really hope I don't have to replace the compressor.
