Hey guys i need some help. I installed some gauges in my car and ever since i get no power coming through to the interior of my car unless the car is on. I have to turn on the car and rev the engine up to get the lights and the windows to work. Does anyone know how how fix this?? Any help is aprecciated.

sounds like syntoms of a bad battery or altenator. Have em checked at autozone. If thats not the problem, get a different source of power. You maybe have low voltage on the wire that you tapped and the gauges may be taking the last of that power from that source you currently have.

Im leaning more towards a bad battery or altenator.

Start simple - check fuses, then undo what you did and see if the problem goes away. If not then its time to start testing what the other guys said and then replace as necessary.

Battery charge is being drained or is low to begin with. With the engine not running, all power comes straight out of the battery.

Reving the engine lets the alternator re-charge the battery. However, the problem could be that the battery is okay and the alternator is not putting out high enough voltage to re-charge the battery from its already depleted state. It may be only enough to maintain the charge, or very slowly re-charge the battery while supplying enough juice to have the engine running.

how alternators work

I already tried hooking it up to a battery charger and that didnt work either I tried a new alternator but it was defective and waiting for a new one. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
