LOL... i'm guessing that your referring to PocketLOGGER, which allows you to "see" what the ECU is reading, but NOT "mess around with stuff" inside of it. PocketLOGGER is only a logger. It just logs what your ECU is seeing. It can also read and clear CEL codes, but you can't alter any of the ECU parameters. For that you'll need either an AFC or DSMlink. DSMlink does have a Palm compatible version.

*EDIT* An AFC does NOT alter your ECU parameters either, it just tricks your ECU into seeing more air, which warrants the ECU to add more fuel.

Basically how a datalogger works is you connect your Palm via the datacable to your OBDII diagnostic port. You'll be able to view in real time a myriad of different parameters that your ECU is monitoring, but only at a pretty slow bit rate of about 5-10 samples per sec (s/s). The more parameters you log the less samples that will be taken per parameter. (i.e. 4 parameters @ 8s/s would be 2 samples per parameter per second).

Once your Palm is hooked up... hit "GO" and it starts recording (logging) the parameters you've selected. Most people will do a WOT pull in 3rd gear and then hit the "STOP" button to end the log. You can then save these logs and import them to your PC where you can have a visual display of what your ECU is seeing during a WOT 3rd gear pull. This is great for monitoring fuel trims, timing, and O2 readings in order to make sure that your not damaging your engine.

Deciphering what all of these reading mean is a whole 'nother lesson which I haven't fully grasped as of yet. The first step though, is getting the logger. There's lot's of free software out there, but for the most part, people would agree that PocketLOGGER is your best option for a 2g.

Happy Logging!

Wret. What did you want me to do? His post is so vague. I'm just trying to lead him somewhere.

:dsm:wret,
how in the hell did u expect me to elaborate or make more sense about somehting i didnt know anything about??? i posted the thread to find something out about it.... u know, since im not a dsm "moderator". u didnt have to be an asshole and send me a link like that. but thanks to everyone else that at least tried to send me something that could make a little sense.
