Recently my 1st gear started popping out upon accelerating from a stop. It only happens once or twice in a day but enough to get me worried. So I decided to do the thing vfaq recommended about fixing shifter movement. I drove 30 minutes on the freeway to get to my friend's shop.
Anyways, so I lift the car up and proceed to remove the tranny drain bolt. To my amazement and shock...only a few drops of oil came out. There was literally almost no oil in there. I proceeded to remove the tranny cover off, and it seems that the nut vfaq refers to was not loose at all.
So now I have two questions:
1. How on earth did the transmission not completely destroy itself on my way there??
2. Would the lack of gear oil cause 1st gear to pop out? I can't judge right now if filling up the transmission with oil fixed anything because it pops out kinda rarely and randomly.
And for the record, for anyone who is curious, if your shifter does move like vfaq mentions when you accelerate and decelerate, it may not necessarily be the nut because mine was on tight and my shifter still moves a little bit.
