Ok.. Im still not getting fuel pressure, need up to figure out what the issue is!

heres some info:

Ive got a NEW walbro 255.
Got A Fuel Lab AFRP
Fuel pump was Regrounded!
replaced fuel filter. (twice.. ill get to that in the story!)

ok story goes like so... did a complete rebuild and swaped the 6 bolt into a 93 DL
so i tried to start it.. it sounded as if it was trying to... it started with starting fluid, and i was told to replace the fuel filter... so i did... the car then started for about 10-15 secs and then slowly died! but still no fuel pressure that i noticed on my gauge. so i talked to a few people and they told me since i didnt clean the fuel lines as it sat for almost 2 years. there was propable settlement in the lines that quickly clogged the filter.. so then replaced the fuel filter again just a few mins ago and NO Start, and STILL NO Fuel Pressure!!

I unhooked the fuel line under the filter and cranked it and it spit out fuel like a pressure hose!!
I took the hose from the top of the filter to the line off and its as clean as a whisle!

I have NO CLUE whatelse to Do!!
CAN Some one please help!!

thanks!

well ya i got the all these parts for the 91+

coil pack
trasistor
CAS
throttle body and all sensors on that
Which my ISC is bad :(
haha
and what else... i don't but i bought like 7 things to swap off it!!

So how will i get my tach to work again??
I think that is something i need.. i mean ive been driving a standard car all my life so i know how to drive it but when im running it on the track i would like to know where my engine revs stand!!

please let me know what i can do!

thanks for all the help too!

You either fix the 90 ignition circuit or put the 91+ coil and transistor on.

If you remember when you did the engine swap that the 90 coil pack had a 4 pin connector and the 91+ had 3. The extra pin was for the 90 tach gate on the bottom of the 90 coil pack. The 90 power transistor had 7 pins and the 91+ has 8, again the difference is for the tach signal.

On the 91+ setup the tach signal comes from the power transistor on the white wire and runs to the ECU and gauge.

On the 90 setup it runs from the coil pack to the noise filter and the ECU, through the noise filter to the gauge. The noise filter connector B-03 has two pins both white wires, pin 1 goes to the gauge and pin 2 to the coil (pin 3) and ECU (pin 109). If you missing the noise filter you don't get a signal to the tach.

I did change out the transistor AND the coil to a 93 cause the harness is out a 91 so sinces all that changed out it. Must be that filter you talkin about?!?
Now where is that located and what's it look like?

Thanks.

Sorry, I though you said in another thread you said you put the 90 harness in.
The noise filter is only used on the 90 cars and wiring.

If you have a 91 turbo harness in the car you'll have to start signal tracing since it should be working. You may have a bad PTM or a break in the wire somewhere.

Hey.. i talked to you through one of my threads awhile ago about my techometer not working.. you said to check the PTM because i did a swap!

Well you said something like the 90 tech read off the coil pack and the 91+ read off the PTM!!

BUT i looked in the haynes book and it says something different!
Im just trying to get my tech working again!!
ok let me explain better and maybe you can help me!!
i had a motor out a 90 switched all my sensors to 91-94 parts
and i have a ecu out a 93!!

now you said that the 90 is different from the 91-94 which is true but the 91 is different from them too!

heres how haynes says it!

90 looks like this:

[1][2][3][-][5][6]

91 like this:

[1][2][3][4][X][5][6][7]

92-94

[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

And it turns out i have the 91 wiring harness... so there is only 7 pins for the PTM and i have a 91 PTM on it but so now how will i get my tech to work again??
Would i have to just get a 92-94 PTM and run a wire from the extra pin to the ecu some where all ghetto and shit?
or is there another way to fix this??

I came to you because we talked about this once already and i believe you are quite smart with electronics from all the posts ive read of yours!

Thanks for the help ahead of time!

That's correct. on the 90 cars the tach signals comes from the coil pack and since you used a 90 style engine in your swap that was one of the things you needed to check. On the 91+ cars the tach signal comes from the Power Transistor Module.

Haynes is confused, most likely by the error in the 91 Factory Service Manual.

The 90 PTM has 6 pins but only 5 are used.

Pin 1 Yellow/Green Coil A (Cyls 1 & 4)
Pin 2 Yellow ECU pin 54
Pin 3 Black Ground
Pin 4 Not Connected
Pin 5 Yellow/Red ECU pin 55
Pin 6 Yellow/Black Coil B (Cyls 2 & 3)

The 91+ PTM has 8 pins but only 7 are used.

Pin 1 Yellow/Black Coil B (Cyls 2 & 3)
Pin 2 Yellow/Red ECU pin 55
Pin 3 Black Ground
Pin 4 White Tach Output
Pin 5 Not Connected
Pin 6 Black/White Switched +12v Power (IG1)
Pin 7 Yellow ECU pin 54
Pin 8 Yellow/Green Coil A (Cyls 1 & 4) Also to Engine Speed Adjustment Connector (White/Black)

So if you have a 91 harness you should have a while wire on pin 4 that runs to ECU pin 109 and to the gauge cluster.

You know that it still counts even when it's empty right?

So your example of the 91 is really the same as 92-94 because you count the open spot you have an X in as pin 5.

91 like this:

[1][2][3][4][X][5][6][7]

92-94

[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

ok it counts as a spot... but not a pin cause there is not pin there!
there is only 7 pins on both the PTM and the Harness connection.... if slot 5 is the RPM reading and i don't have a pin in slot 5 what do i do?

*edit*
ok... i reread your long post... what should, or what could i do to test that?

I assume you are asking how do you make sure then the white wire from pin 4 on the PTM goes to pin 109 on the ECU and to the gauge cluster?

You get out your multimeter, make up some extension wire for the probes and measure the resistance between the endpoints. You'll need to get the factory manuals to find out which pin on the gauge cluster to check. I'm not going to go looking for it.

didnt expect you to sir... i was just looking for pointers!! and was completely confused but what the hanyes books says compaired to what you told me!

I thank you for the help and appreciate it!
Ill let you know how it all goes!!
