Ok, on my project Tsi, that i got not running
I had no compression on cylinders 2 & 3. I am kind of an idiot because i didn't bother to check 1 & 4, i just figured i would start tearing it down and inspect it. I am still kicking myself...
After pulling the head, i am even more at a loss. This is what i found.
The head looks really good, overall. I do have one point in question, in between the 2/3 cylinder combustion chambers, the passage is filled with soot, like exhaust was leaking into here....this would explain the compression issues. The problem with that theory, the head gasket "looked" fine. I know a visual inspection is just that....anyway..
I get a little further in and find the balance shaft belt is broke....adds new shit to the mix!
I am guessing i will cart the head off to the machine shop and get it checked over, replace the belt and call it done?
I haven't really dealt with balance shafts in my past, eccentric shafts yes...
**Balance Shafts can only damage the motor by the belt fragments causing the timing belt to jump right?
TIA!
