I have a 96 tsi. I did a boost leak check and got all the leaks done. When I start the car up it running rich with black smoke , then it will idle real high like 3k for few seconds and then stop, maken the car almost want stall, Have no clue what it is.. During that time the check engine light wil come on. Any help would be great
 
have you checked your isc unit could be the problem. is your bov vented ? if so change that. also have you cleaned the throttle body? that maybe the cause as well
 
sounds like a bad maf sensor get the light checked that should tell you whats up
 
the bov is vented and I cleaned the throttle body, I even got a diff throttl ebody for it.. coolant temps are new.... have new plugs, LOL I know the mpi relays are clicking when it idles high, and i have 2 sets. I have 850 fic in now and im puttin the 450s back in..Also have a 50 trim (g50) installed ,ported headall new gaskests.........just got a diff maf , cause thought other 2 were bad..
 
you need to update your profile first off if all you all is an safc and your runing 850s your not going to get a good tune at all the safc is only good for 650s also DO NOT VENT THE BOV thats ###### causing your black somke that will also make the car idel high and to be honnest i wouldnt be running big injectors and turn up the boost without a wideband but its your motor
 
What kind of fuel pump?
Did you adjust the BISS before installing the TB?
It doesn't take much to foul plugs when rich as shit.
When you changed plugs, how did they look?
Gapped at .028?
 
yeah if you floued out the plugs and didnt change them that may make it smoke as well hows the idel now is that fixed and just the smoke? for the hell of it you should take your intake pipe off and see how the turbo is if its got a lot of shaft play in it or not the turbo could cause the smoke as well
 
also get a FPR with those injectors because you could of over run the stock fpr causing the black smoke.

Lets put it this way black smoke can be caused by one thing and one thing only: too much fuel in the combustion chamber. Now you have to figure out what is causing too much fuel to be there. Once you know that you will of fixed ure problem.
 
i forgot to ask when you put the 440s back in did you zero out the safc2? because im gussing its set for the 850s and not the stockers but make sure you change ## plugs
 
afc isnt hooked up, it can be in few min,it was uplugged,cause i wasnt sure what was wropng with the car and still dont,LOL..plugs were gaped .28. they smell like gas....stock pump...........idles like shit and still smokes....turbo is new zero miles
 
wait a second you cant just (unplug the safc) its wired into the harness...if you unplug it wont know wtf to do the maf will not get singal.......
 
ok have the new plugs in and the afc connected its zero'd out..A it idles good around 800- 1000.,should i change out the inj 2 the 450's???
 
yes. youll NEVER get the 850s tuned on the safc2 650s is max you need a better managment system for thoses and a wideband i would leave the safc2 zeroed out and put the 450s run stock boost and try not to ramp the crap out of it untill you get a wideband then get a better managment system and put the 850s in tust me ive ben threw all this before ive got 3k into my motor alone i wouldnt do anything to damage it without a wideband you never know if your running rich or lean if lean it out and not know it kiss the motor bye bye in my book better safe then sorry. as for idel you could adjust it with the biss screw but i wouldnt untill you put the 450s in because at the moment its still running on the rich side because the computer is controlling everything and its going to figure your 450s are in there the injectors are dumping way to much fuel in so change them out asap or you'll need to change the plugs again
 
the car should run alright but like i said before make sure your running low boost if your running a 16g i wouldnt push more then 12lbs they say 14 is max on a stock fuel setup better safe then sorry as far the 850s go that you have you'll never max them out with a walrbo255 fuel pump but when you install one you need a fpr or the 255 will over run the stock fpr and make the car run rich and you'll never get a good tune out of it i had to run my car like that for a week and let me tell you it sucked i didnt drive it much
 
turn the boost as low as it will go hopefully it wont lean out at the top but it could so do not beat on it untill you get a fuel pump fpr wideband and better fuel management
 
I agree, your order of installing parts is out of whack. Get a Walboro 255 and a AFPR to stabalize the fuel pressure. It should be set to 46-48 psi. Lose the 850's or the SAFC. Either go down to 650's or pick up a DSMlink. Change you plugs to NGK BPR6ES until you up the boost past 17 psi, then you can go with the BPR7ES, gapped to 0.28. Also you probably sufficated your cat, so you replace that last. Doing it first, will only lead to you ruining the new one.
 
well switched out injectors,and it still pushes black smoke, sounds like it skipping a little. should i do anything with the afc 2 help it
 
did you zero it out like i told you ? check your plugs again odds are they are flouded out you dont have a wideband so im not sure if your running rich or not. you really need to make some ivestments and do it right your doing things backwards is your bov vented? if it is make sure you have it go back into the intake for the turbo where are you geting oil from and do you have balance shafts?
