Check this out. After changing my alternator at a local shop, I proceed to drive the car home. The CEL flickers on and off and the rpm gauge drops down causing me to stall out. I hear random clicking from the ECU and proceed to try to start the car. Wont start. So while sitting on the side of the road, I go to run the Check engine codes even though there is no CEL light on my dash. First time, the light on my homemade diagnostic LED light is just constantly on no blinks or nothing. At this point, I disconnect my neg. terminal on my battery to reset. After 10 min. the car starts up to my surprise and runs normal up until a block away from my house. Again the CEL flickers on and off, engine backfires and when I drop into neutral, the car stalls out. At this point I check the codes again, and then ALL THE CODES POPPED UP!!!! It went directly down the row. Is my ECU fried? Is it even possible to have all the codes pop up like that? The car still starts up, but does not drive normally if not at all before it stalls. The ecu has been replaced by the old owner, but not definite how long ago. I've replaced the capacitors on this ecu and ran great for a while until this. I just want to confirm and get a second opinion that the ECU is bad before I purchase another one. Also will a Federal ECU work on a California model car? Thanks guys for you help and sorry so long.
