I am thinking about ditching my cat and instead running a silencer or two in the piping instead of the cat. Do you think that it will still be too loud, even with the silencers in its place. I have a full 3" with a high flow cat and no silencers and it is still pretty loud. I don't really want it to be louder than it is now. What so you guys think?

Keep the CAT, run a 3" cut-out after the DP, get a perforated core resonator, and get an Edelbrock 5525, that will be one sleeper of an exhaust :D

I already have a magnaflow muffler that looks bone stock and I don't really want to run a cut out. I want to run no cat :shhh:

I had a 2 1/2 turboback with a resonator in place of the cat plus another resonator and a straight through muffler and it was fairly quiet. Although you have a 3 inch system so that might add to the noise. I always had to drop to the highest gear whenever there's a cop since it was fairly rumbly. :shhh:

I run without a cat, I definately love the exhaust note with it. The power increases are also very nice for what you paid for a test pipe. If you dont fab one yourself just check out punishment racing for their downpipes good stuff for a good price!

yah, I now what you mean about the cops. My exhaust is really drowny and rumbly so it is hard to hide it, but I have not had a problem yet. I'm just trying to figure out if it is going to be noticably louder. Do you guys think that 2 resonators will restrict more than a cat? I doubt that it will.

I'm currently running an electric cutout and I would suggest this to anyone. Mine is a little before the cat. Whenever I'm driving around I leave it open and it sounds  . I get a lot of complements/stares. Great for attention. Whenever I'm around the cops I close it all the way for a stock exhaust note. The valve is fully adjustable so I can run it half way open which is not nearly as loud as full open and still relieves all the back pressure from the pipe. This is the only way to get exactly what you want; anything else is a compromise.

 See, another person running a full exhaust WITH a cat. WTF

Ditch it. I have 2.5" full exhaust with magnaflow muffler and no cat. Not loud at all. Barely made a difference when I took cat off. Bit more top end youll notice...

Cant police do roadside checks on cars in california, such as checking for CARB stickers under the hood or searching for catalytic converters? If thats the case, i would fab up a test pipe that has a catalytic converter shield around it, and use that (or buy another cat and gut the one you have now, as stated above). This way it will appear as if you are running a cat, and when you go to emissions you will still have a working cat in your garage you can swap in there to pass a sniffer test.

As far as noise goes, running no cat will make you a teeny bit louder, but im sure you will enjoy the throaty gurgle and tones that come along with straight pipes.

Police in CA are crazy, but my car looks bone stock. They do not have roadside checks so it really isn't a problem. You guys don't think that running no cat with 2 silencers will restrict more than having no cat?
