If you can manipulate the BOV just free revving the engine, the spring is not properly adjusted (too loose)

My 1g bov never did until I crushed it. Now it whistles if I rev in neutral.
Yeah. It will look like a vice attacked the top of it. It will be incredibly obvious, the hat deforms when crushed.My stock 1G BOV whistles too. At neutral, and when I'm driving around. Is there a way to tell if it's crushed?
I would do a boost leak test, it might have been damaged when crushed
