Well, I guess since I get a few newbie posts, I thought I'd ask for some help, and I've searched other topics and couldn't find much help...I'm getting no boost, I'll get it up to 0psi on the stock gauge and maybe 1psi past but other than that I'm getting notta..I've checked all the hoses and even about to do a boost leak test..I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and how you guys got it fixed..

Well start with a boost leak test and fix those leaks and also check to make sure the wastegate actuator isn't stuck open.

On the stock turbo, there is a can with a vacuum line going to it. That is the actuator. Follow the rod coming from it and it will goto the turbine housing and attach to the wastegate flapper. You want to make sure the flapper freely moves and if you have an air compressor, blow air into the actuator itself to verify that the rod moves back and forth freely without binding up.

I'd check what these guys said first. Also, you mentioned the stock boost gauge isn't reading boost. You can do a search on the site to get more info on this, but long story short, don't trust the stock gauge to be anywhere near truthful. Does the car feel like it is building boost at all or does it just feel dead?

Well, I guess I'm kinda confused I took the heatshield off to take a look..Is the flapper in the housing like a thermostat?? Theres no play in the rod that leads off the actuator either, which should mean its closed right?

give me a few minutes and I'll take a pic of what you should be looking at

I hope these pics help out

Gotcha, My rods alot skinnier than that, same looking setup just skinnier and its connected and everything and theres no play in the rod..

Also I noticed at idle sometimes my boost gauge would surge, I know the gauge isn't very accurate but I thought that may help explain, I got on the highway and tried pinning it in 3rd and the gauge would not go over 0psi but sometimes I might get 1psi and the car seemed robbed of power

Hmm, i wouldn't know what to tell you other than if it looks good from the outside and the rod on that actuator is rock solid (meaning it wont move in and out freely) than i am out of ideas :(

Thanks for the pics though, I will just need to go ahead and do that damn boost leak test and get a new boost gauge asap...thanks for your help bud..nice car btw you aren't to far away from me

Deffinatly do the boost leak test as well but if he flappr is fine you could also have a pre turbo exhaust leak that would cause that kind of power loss. The only way to tell is by sound (if any), color, or by doing a seafoam cleaning.

I'll try the Seafoam cleaning, I've done it on alot of other cars but for some reason on this forum I've heard alot of people bashing on it for some reason...I'll buying new plugs and wires and changing the oil tomorrow since I did just buy this car yesterday, I'll pick up a can of Seafoam as well...

Well, as sad as it sounds, not checking this first, I found my problem...I pulled the intake hose off and checked to see if my Turbine would spin and it won't even move in the least bit, Won't move with the car off or with the car on and light rpms...Soo which leads me to where I should get a new turbo from, Ebay has some TD05 Big 16g's for a good price, just don't know about getting a Turbo off Ebay though LOL...

I personally don't have any experience with Ebay turbos but if I were you I would just pay the little extra money and buy a real one from a supporting vendor. Just my opinion.

First question is was the car boosting before this problem. Yes a boost leak test is definately a great idea also vacuum leaks can also lead to this issue check all your lines. Invest in an after market boost gauge. Also is the car driving fine just not boosting or does it hit a wall and does not acellerate if so can be a air fuel problem. But start with leaks if no leaks posible turbo.

o.-a He said that his Compressor wheel wasn't spinning at all. I'm sure it's like he's DRIVING a brick wall at this point.

If the turbo is locked like that, might as well take the time and look into a new one. You can find them in the classifieds here, a Dime a Dozen.

Alright, I took the turbo out today thanks to a very helpful how to on the forum, big thanks to majik2k5, I got a few questions..I know I will have to replace my manifold gasket, but I would think you would have to replace the other gaskets which is this one right here

And I think there was a gasket for the downpipe where it connects to the o2 housing studs, not sure on that one though, but I already ordered the exhaust manifold gasket but what's the term for the gasket I got a pic of above? Are there any other gaskets I should get replaced while I got the turbo out? Also do you think my easiest best best would to get a rebuilt 14b? I'm not looking to rebuild my old one, but I was wondering about the possibilities of a upgrading to a 16g, do they bolt right on? Is getting a new exhaust manifold worth it on a stock car?

Thanks alot for all your help guys...

Kevin
