Hey guys I'm looking to turbo my 1992 Talon N/T soon. I have a 1993 Talon TSI parts car. Today I pulled the turbo out, its a TD05H, 16g I'm assuming.. Now I have no experience with turbo (yet), is this a decent turbo? I spun the fan and checked for shaft play, its tight in all directions and the fan is well oiled and spins pretty good. What kind of boost do you think I can expect? I haven't run a compression test yet but I am going to order a Punishment Racing 1G FMIC next week. I can post some pics tomorrow as well.

Is there anything else I should upgrade before installing a turbo/FMIC to a FWD non turbo 1G?? My Talon has 3" exhaust all the way back so i know thats good. Anything else?? I appreciate any replies. Thanks for reading :thumb:

Its alot more involved than you think LOL. I've never converted a N/T to a turbo, but you should check out the N/T section, cause I think there is section where they tell you how to convert it over. It's either a specific section, or a big thread, I don't remember which.

Thank you! Lots of good info - I'll read up :)

To figure out what turbo you have http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/313105-16g-serial-numbers.html as for the whole turbo conversion I believe it's quite a bit more in depth than you think. Think you have a lot of reading ahead of you before you start buying parts. From reading on here though, your first step, do everything you can maintenance wise.

Thanks dude, thats helpful. My Turbo 93 Parts Talon should have everything i need right? I would just swap the engine but mines cleaner and i already took the transmission/clutch/flywheel out and put them into my car. So I'll read through that conversion guide and hopefully find all the parts i need on the 93

I'm pretty sure the ecu's are different also. If going turbo i would reccomend a rebuild with the turbo pistons and rings and bearings. Also, i would recommend your oil pump, water pump, tensioner and idler and tensioner pulley, along with all belts. If you indeed have a 16g i would look into buying dsmlink v3, or v3 lite, a wideband and a boost gauge. After that, i would look into upgrading your fuel system and do your gaskets.

I do have the ECU out of the turbo 93, and a boost gauge. I figure the oil & water pumps out of that car should be good too. Now if I do a compression test on my car and it comes back good I won't have to change pistons and that right? Cause that sounds like a big pain to me.. I will save the engine from my parts car before i junk it. Hopefully everything i need is on it

If your just going to put that turbo on your N/T then you shouldnt boost more than 7 lbs. I would recommend doing a whole engine swap. They have many forums on this already, I've been reading them because i to am doing the swap! With that 16g you can boost anywhere from 7 lbs, usually stock wastegate setting, up till it blows. LOL But most of my friends who have it like to boost 16 lbs with a fmic. The stock smic isnt very good past stock boost and the 16g pushes more volume than the stock 14b. Good luck with your swap! Its really not too hard if you have a complete parts car just sitting there.
