sup guys...
first off let me say Ive been surfing the bored here for a while and seems like a great place for info... this is my first post,
I admit im Very new to the DSM world and I dont know to much about them yet..

ok..
Im looking to buy a 1997 Talon TSI AWD
the car seems to be in great shape, although it was in a fender bender before it seemed to be fixed the right way..
so after checking the car over we went for a drive..
car drove nice around town and on the highway..
but ! when I went to give it some heavy gas It started to miss and buck a bit ?
under low throttle and even mid throttle the car seemed to work nice, pulled good and so on...no problems at all.
but as soon as I put the gas down she started to miss and studder and so on...
Any ideas ?
The car was lady owned and is 110% stock with a little over 100 000 KM's ( around 65 000 miles ? ) ...anything I could check or look over befor I buy the car..
Im worried about that miss, I dont want to buy the car and have it beeing something major..
what would be a few key things I should get checked on the car ?
im going to get compression checked but I dont know what kind of numbers I should get..
Ive been reading about the whole Crank walk thing, im very nervous about that... any way to fix that ? I was told the JDM equal to that motor didnt suffer from crank walk ? I dont how true that is ?
what would be the JDM equal to that ? what car ?
and last... whats a used tranny and motor usually go for ? just incase :)

I think thats all for now...
I look forward to some help and hope I get that miss figured out beofre I buy it..
thanks alot guys... im going up to give the car a good look over again in a little while...

I might add the car is canadian IF that makes a differnce ?
i know some cars out there it matters from can to usa., dont know about the talons .... like I say.. im a Newbie to the DSM world

Thanks in advance..
look forward to sticking around here... check back soon..
peace.

well the crank walk thing cant really be avoided it just happenes, but take the car for a test drive a take a left turn and push the clutch in while turnning, if it stays in you have carank walk. and for the JDM thing it stands for japan direct motors, and you can usualy pick one up pretty cheep, not exactly sure what price. well hope that bit of info helps.

Thanks for the responce..
you say take a left hand corner will tell me if I have crank walk ?
can you possibly explain this ? how sharpe of a corner ? what kind of speed ?
I dont get how that would tell if the crank is walking ?
ive read about it a bit but never heard of anything like that..
about the JDM thing, I knew what it stood for, just dont know what car the same motor came in over there.. as in buy it and bolt it in..

thanks for info :thumb:

*laserturbo91*
she tells me she always ran the premium/high octane gas in her car..
dont qoute me on this but I belive are highest octane rating up here is 91 ? ill check into that...
if its that would a lil bit of octane boost during fill ups help the problem ?

Thanks for the help:thumb:

Thanks man
ill give that a try a few times tommorw when i take the car for another drive..
just to be sure.. last think I want is to have to put a motor in the car :(
ill let ya know how it comes out

few people ive asked about that miss/studder say it might be a boost leak ?
does that make sence to you guys ? I know nothing about forced induction, im very new to it...
how would I know for sure and how could I fix it ?

:D :thumb:

its not a boost leak

check plugs and wires first

65,000 miles means you may not crankwalk if you make it to like 75-80 you probably won't crankwalk

oh and btw

if your thinking of ordering a jdm engine don't buy a matching 1g tranny cause it will not work in a 2g

thanks Unior :D
I dont think I fully understand what your saying... are you saying that if the car lasted this long or a little longer I will not get crank walk ?
if it didnt hit by then its not going to hit at all ?

also... any web pages or phone number I could call for used motors or trannys ? usdm or jdm... either or, Id just like to get some price and availibily on some stuff

yeah your close to the "home free" mileage i have 97k on my 95 tsi awd now and i am fairly confident i'll be alright

no guarantees but yeah also why are you looking for a jdm engine again? another thing to know is that the jdm engines are 6 bolt instead of 7 bolt meaning that it will take some modifications to install an older 6 bolt in a 2g

no crank walk would be a huge bonus, lets hope we dont get it :thumb:
I heard that the JDM equivalant to the 97 4g63 did not suffer from the crank walk issue... so i was thinking about getting one and not worry about it... I dont know if thats true or rumor, as I say im a huge newbie to the DSM world..
thats why I was asking what jdm unit was the same as ours over here.
bolt in and go sorta deal..

any more help would be great guys :D ;)
