I own a 95 tsi fwd. Long story kinda short-I wish i had went to a mechanic who really knew what they were doing before i started installing mods. I got the FMIC installed. They said they "Short piped it" so the pipe runs over the mas.Looked weird to me. Something blew out and i lost my oil running around so my turbo went out and it started knocking. Had ENGINE REBUILT and balance shaft eliminated.Said they didnt need a kit,but had done them before. Can't seem to seal up the oil pan now.Replaced turbo w/ evo III and tubular headers.Turbo seems to be leaking from return line(more oil leak) and the car smokes blue smoke like a 3 pack a day smoker and reeks of gas.He says it's running way rich and it's the cpu.I gotta eprom chip to go in it,but my header just cracked at one of the weld flanges and my engine bay is getting so hot ,gaskets are melting and my accelerator cable just broke.I love my talon, but I'm beginning to think she isn't meant to be.Anybody out there?

Hi, I got your email. I can imagine that you must be very frustrated and ready to throw in the towel on this. Just deal with one problem at a time otherwise it is going to overwhelm you.

So I would recommend starting with the basics of getting an idea of the health of your motor and being able to monitor what is going on. After you replace the throttle cable do a compression test and make sure all "tune up" items (plugs, wires, fluids, etc.) are taken care of.

Looking at your profile I didn't see any mention of a boost guage or fuel mods. If this is correct then a boost guage should be the first thing to install, especially if on the stock fuel system with the EVO III turbo. A logger would also be wise to get an idea of what is going on (since you have an eprom ECU this gives you all sorts of options).:thumb:

Once these are addressed, it sounds like the underhood heat is the most immediate problem (as far as damage that it is causing) so you should probably look at either getting your tubular header repaired or just getting a cast manifold. The EVO III manifold is nice because the size of the collector opening matches that of your turbo and they hold up quite well.

Just approach this mess systematically and spend some time searching as most any problem you might encounter has already been discussed. If in doubt, don't hesitate to ask as the members on this forum are some of the most helpful around (and they will watch my back if I am misleading you :p ).

You need to formulate a question. Do you want to know where to go from here?

Blue smoke is oil, not rich mixture.

Sounds like your mechanics really don't know what they are doing. Header getting so hot it's melting gaskets is most likely a lean condition actually. If they have leaks in the IC piping this is entirely possible. If you've been running that lean for any amount of time you could have screwed up the turbo bearings and that could be where the blue smoke is coming from.

They could have also screwed up the rebuild, which it sounds like they did since it's leaking oil like a sieve. I'd take it back and tell them it's not fixed and you want it fixed properly.
