I like how the rims look... very aggressive. However, running excessive negative camber really has no benefit at all.
Depends on what you call excessive and what kind of driving you set up for. Serious autocrossers look for ways to increse negative camber beyond that of normal lowering. And any tire manager could tell you that tire wear from negative camber is minimal with proper alignment.

Car looks good man.

Can't wait to put on my 18X9's this weekend. Do you guys think that 235/40/18 are the best tires with my wheels? The offset is +28. I test fitted the wheel without tires and they dont stick out at all. The guy I bought them from said he was running them on 235/40/18's and they fit perfect. What do you guys think?

So I'm not the only one that understands. I have a bout 3 degrees negative all around. Rest of the specs (caster, toe, cross caster, cross toe) are within factory adjustment. The benefit of running "excessive" negative camber is to fit wider, better looking wheels. Boostedins.Fl, it will definately stretch less than mine. I got a killer deal on the 225/40/18's. If i was going to pay full price(or even full cost in my situation) I would have gone wider. I was thinking 255/35, but i like eclipsegsx1736's idea with the 265/30/18. Car is now for sale so within the next week it would seem, she'll be gone. next set, if i kept the car, would definately be 265/30/18.

I personally love the way it looks, but I also have alot of audi/ vw friends. It's about time someone started playing with different widths and offsets on these cars. I went to search for pictures of BBS LM's on a 2g and the site barely found the word BBS. Anyways, props for trying something different.

BTW: Any problems when pulling into inclined parking lots, or uphill bumps, like those in fast food restaurants or gas stations? I've had trouble in the past with a height drop similar to yours and 17x7.5's. When I turn in, it has caught the tire and bent the fender out.

No problems whatsoever, it's all about the angle you take the curb at. My Front bumper is in pretty good shape considering the New Orleans streets.

I dunno. I'm kinda torn. I like the look on drift and VIP, but on an eclipse? It might take some getting used to. But now that I think about it, this is a good place for this question.

I have a set of 18x8 wheels wrapped in 225's. Three of the wheels have Ultra HPR Radial GT's while one has a a Falken Ziex. The Radial GT's sit flush or hang a little past the lip of the wheel. The Falken is 'stretched'. Why are both listed as 225's but the Falken is stretched? The Falken makes the rim 'pop' in looks, but the Radial GT's are 'safer' as in harder to rash the rim, and they also have more meat on the ground. Is there any advantage to running either style? And which brand tires tend to be 'stretched' when compared to other brands in the same size?

The reason why is because every style tire's width is different. Go look at the tread width on the manufacturer's site and you'll see that the Falken is narrower. And 225's are a touch narrow for my liking on a x8, at least if you're talking about handling at all.

LOL deeper lip will always look better than no lip IMO.

And I have to say, the first time I saw a stretched tire on super wide rims, I hated it. But it has grown on me. Not my personal style but it does look pretty hot.

My setup is the exact opposite LOL, 245s on skinny (relatively) 17x7.5s... Hoping to get some new nice 17x8.5 wheels soon, but just spent too much on turboing my car so not enough is left for wheels right now.

So do you guys think 235's are not the right tires for my 18X9's? The guy I got em from said that's what he was running and they fit perfect and wasn't that stretched. I've been trying to find pics of this setup but to no avail...

to many people a 235 tire on a 9" wheel would be considered stretched, but to the JDM/VIP/Euro crowd, that wouldnt be considered stretched. its all a matter of how you look at it.

i would say that a 235 is barely stretched on a 9" wheel

A 235 will be decently stretched on a 9". I had 255/40 Azenis on my 17x9 and it was close but very slightly stretched. Even my wide-tread Advan Neovas 255/40 were pretty much flush or slightly stretched. They are much wider than a typical 255 and are way wider than a 235.

A touch narrow eh? Well I'm going to be grabbing a new set of summer tires, so what width would you go with? 40/235?

Very nice I dig it. Wingless, wide wheels, and the hood I want. I thought they were advan rg II for a second.

Imagine if those wheels had no lip, stretched tire and was still the same size and offset.
2008 is the year of the anti-lip!

A few that come to mind immediately:

Advan RGII - GTR Face
Advan RS
Work Emotion CR-Kai
5Zigen FN01RC....kinda, concave for sure
Volk ME Progessive

I would be rocking concave CR-Kai if the vendor I ordered through didn't screw me over. Oh well, I <3 my RPF-1. Plus the CR-Kai are heavy as f*ck

WOW. Your car has the look that I am going for. You just inspired me to go 18x9.5 instead of 18x8.5... i just realized that you are in Louisiana also. Once I get my car back we have got to do a photoshoot if we run across one another at a show somewhere or something...

Thanks for the replies. to be honest, after seeing the results, I would go 18x10 (maybe 10.5) with a 285/30/18. Especially if i had/converted to awd. eclipse's don't have much of a turning radius so work to the inner fender should be minimal and when i pulled the front fenders for this fitment i went about 2 inches too far and had to push the fender back to not look sunk. to be honest i wouldn"t upgrade wheels on a 2g and do anything short of a 9" wheel. even if the stretched look isn't your cup of tea, a 255/40/17 or 255/35/18 isn't a hard fitment as long you have a fender roller.

Not a huge fan of the skinny tire on a wide wheel, but the rims are a great looking design.

For reference I run 4 degrees camber, flared fenders, and 275/40-17's on a 17x9 +24mm.

One guy pmed me and asked about my comment about the 18x10's and what offsets to run. As stated before I work at a tire shop and have many tires laying around as well as an old 265/35/18 pirelli. I will mount it on a front wheel and post the findings on clearences with pics. Hopefully this will be very helpful to someone serious about running 285/30/18's. I don't think its been done on a stock bodied 2g and i want to see it so I'm willing to answer any questions for the sake of research. it can be done and i"ll prove it. I can't get to his name but the guy with the white gt30r gsx could benefit from the info. Besides honda guys (which we don"t want to be in the same category as) we are the only car enthusiast crowd that has an average of 225ish width.

Get Wide - Nick

P.S. - I have nothing against wide tires, just not on a 7.5" wide wheel. Wider wheels aren"t that much more expensive in the same brand and model wheel so hopefully this will sway people to run wider wheels and tires.

Id rahter see what you can do with a 255-275 tire on a stock 2g in terms of wheel/tire packages preferably in 17-inch as I know a lot of people run 17s and want to go as wide as possible.

I know a couple people running 285/30-18's on stock 2g's. I know one posted pics at one point, but not sure where.
