just installed a new 16g turbo after my t25 took a crap. everything seems to be hooked up right, no leaks...checked for two days with the car still up on jack stands just letting it idle and reving it up a little. take it down off the jack stands today and go out for the first run to see how its doing and where my boost is at. first time the turbo spools up (i only let it spool to 6 psi mind you) theres a massive amount of mostly white smoke behind me.

i primed the turbo, but not the line (forgot...doh!)...however i pulled the ignition plug and turned the engine over for about 25-30 seconds...figured that'd be enough. i took my time with this install cause i didnt want any problems.

my head gasket is not blown, my coolant lines do not leak.

I meant fresh from production, never been installed.

anyway, I guess I got a little freaked out and overreacted. Its stopped smoking and is spooling fine...its a lot quieter than the old t25, even with a knock off type rs bov. whats that all about? my mbc was holding 12 psi strong with the stock bov installed, though it didnt feel more powerful than the t25. now i've got the rs style bov on and its boosting in excess of 15psi so i've got to adjust the mbc a little, the new bov is just as quiet as stock though which is making me a little worried.

havent done a boost leak test yet.

What's the deal with your oil drain? It sounds like there is definitely some type of obstruction.

Did you swap the 2G one for a factory 1G drain? Did you slot the holes on your 2G drain to fit the 16G's flange? Did cut your 2G oil drain and join it to a 1G oil drain using a piece of rubber hose?

i installed rre's oil feed line, but before doing so i poured a little (i'm talking little...like a capful) of oil into the hole beforehand. the oil did not go anywhere, just kinda pooled up right there. i was expecting it to pour into the turbo and come out the drain side, which i would then plug...but it did not.

turbo came with a new oil drain line to fit both the turbo and the oil pan...no leaks either, yay.

is it odd that the big 16g doesnt make as much noise as the stock t25 at the same boost levels? when i turn it up to say 15 or so psi i can hear the turbo much better, but at 12 its almost dead quiet.

I noticed your profile describing the turbo to be an "ebay evoIII b16g"....be advised that I've seen the turbine seals stick into the groove on these turbos when they were brand new, causing them to blow oil profusely.

Don't go any higher than 15psi without fuel mods, please.
