This came in today. I dont know if i like it. Seems really small. The turbo is a 60 trim supposedly. Its a garrett.
here is what I am putting it on
4G63 with a 2.4 crank (2.3 liter)
head with some port work on the bowls
Is this too small?

I'm curious. Why didn't you go with a FP Red or some other mitsubishi housing type 60 trim?

All I can say is start porting it if you have a 2 1/2" o2 housing. If the o2 is 2" porting the turbo without porting the o2 housing won't make a difference.

I am not using a stock exhaust.

The Red has a 60-1 wheel. Although it can be designed as a "60 trim," don't get it confused with the typical "60 trim" wheels.

did you even do any research on this turbo you bought? or just jumped on it because it said "60trim"?

How could you guys possibly not ask him to measure (mic) the compressor or turbine wheel before "saying" it's a 60 trim?

*rephrased* How come no one asked him to measure the actual comp wheel?

If this is an eBay turbo can you supply a link? What other info do you have on this turbo as surely you do have more than you shared and don't worry about the negative posts. You will get good info that you can use to make an informed decision on whether to keep or sell and get something else. You might have not gotten the FP "red" due to it's $1349. price tag, I know it's stopping me! Mark

This is what the seller had for the information on the turbo when i bought it.

a GARRETT.60 T3/T4 B, S TRIM .48 stage 1 exhaust housing The compressor has been polished , and the exhaust side has been coated with a grey ceramic heatshield material.

Well it definitely isn't a to4e/s cover, so it possibly could be a to4b. But again, the only way you're going to know what type of turbo that is by measuring the actual inducer and exducer of the compressor wheel and the turbine wheel.

Yeah it's too small. The hot side would choke any flow the compressor could muster. Looks nice though. Dejon has a SCM6152 with an internal wastegate for $869. That might suit your needs iif cost is an issue otherwise with a stroker the FP "RED" is a great choice. I am looking hard at it and even though I would be dropping 10lbs/min of flow the 8^cm2 turbine may flow more to make up for the loss in potential compressor flow. The FP3575 is priced a couple of hundred less and may be best for me. mark

I respectfully disagree. Although a larger turbine will flow more the question here is more of whatZ? I would contact www.turbobygarrett.com and contact them with the pics and info you have.
Remember guys this is going on a stroker motor. Mark

what if i upgraded the exhaust housing to a larger size?
Doing a little Research and the T04B "S" Trim is optimistically rated to ~37lb/min at a horrid 50% efficiency. This wheel's max efficiency is only 73% at 24 lb/min :barf:

Combine that with an anemic Stg1 turbine wheel and .43 A/R Housing and I'd be suprised if you'd do any better than a T28 or "small" 16G.

SBR dyno tested the "V" Trim T04B (larger Compressor Wheel/Turbine Wheel/AR) and only managed 329WHP on a well prepped engine. They got nearly 400WHP on an EVOIII 16G.

Sure it looks pretty, but you should have done your research prior to pullign the trigger on this purchase. My advice is if you cannot return it (I would even if you have to pay a fee), sell it and get something bigger :dsm:

yeah i have a manifold (actually its a tubular manifold) set up for a t-4 turbo. i do have an external wastegate so it shouldnt be a problem.

That turbo is straight T4 so be sure that the manifold is flanged for such. You will also need a custom O2 housing or O2 eliminator downpipe.

May be cheeper for you in the end to pick up a Used FPRed/SCM61 (mitsu flanged) or SC61 (T3 Flanged) as both bolt up to the OEM O2/Downpipe.

I hope you have upgraded fuel / intake / FMIC planned as don't see mention of any in your profile :dsm:

DejonPowerhouse has an ad on the homepage and they have an SCM61 with internal gate that bolts to the stock exhaust for $869. Mark

Looks like that is exactly what you bought. Its a .60 a/r to4b S-trim compressor, .48 A/r t3 turbine housing with a stage1 turbine wheel. You really need to do some more reading "learning" before making any future turbo purchases. Or call up a trusted DSM parts vendor and tell them what you want and let them make the choice.
