so i got a new 14b ### my old one had cracks in it on the exhaust housing around the wastegate flapper hole. my wastegate flapper was sealing all the way as u can see in the pics. it was causing me to get late turbo spool. i was just wondering would could be the cause of the cracks, running to lean?? im only running 13 psi with zero boost leaks any ideas?http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=98278&stc=1&d=1249276211

Was it welded shut? If so you need an external wastegate (which is pretty pricey). If it isn't opening far enough you could try a new wastegate actuator?

I don't think you have to be running lean to cause cracks on the exhaust side. When I replaced the original 14B on my car it had over 100K miles - turbo was locked and had a couple of cracks on the exhaust side. Besides a K&N the car was bone stock - very unlikely that the car was running lean since they are tuned to run rich out of the factory. Bottom line this may just be indicative of a turbo this this many miles.
