poynette,
The time has come for me to replace my super 20g. I am looking towards the fp3065 or the fp3575. the mods are as follows
built 2.4
magnus head w/oversized valves 272 cams
magnus smim
3" exhaust
1000cc injectors
built tranny ect....
I am looking to get around 450-500 awhp. The car will rarely see a track or race fuel. I welcome advice from any one who has personal experiance with a turbo that would get me to these goals easily.
thanks

If your not going to hit the track that much than the 3065 is perfect for you especially with the 2.4L. Thing has great spool-up time and once it hits boost it just soars through the revs. Also it should get you 450AWHP no problem if tuned right. On 31PSI I hit 533AWHP but running out of fuel so we backed a little timing out and lowered the boost to 30 PSI and hit 520AWHP with a more conservative tune. If I had more fuel and got the misfire up top figured out it could go 550+ barely breaking a sweat. Those were on 92 pump and meth only. Race gas would probably do even better.

Yes, Andy is giving good advice. Keep looking at least. 20psi by 3500rpms on a 2.0 motor and enough topend flow for 500whp is really a good thing for a street car. . . for most :) . The hx35 can do this. You'll probably be looking at the hx40 in the bep housing, though, seeing the turbos you've mentioned. Spools faster than those turbos and is good for 650+whp. And is priced at about 1/2 the cost with an incredibly durable yet still rebuildable core. There's a stroker setup dynograph in that thread.

For your goal, I would look at the fp3065, if you MUST have an FP turbo. Both will reach your goal and have headroom. Pick the one with the least amount of lag.

I am not particular to any brand, I have been out of the dsm world for about 3 years. I got frustrated with the car and quit working on it. I got an itch the other day found out why it was smoking (80psi of oil pressure at idle) oil seals in turbo are leaking. I have a stock 2g manifold laying around and a turbonetics t3 manifold on the car now. the fp turbos are the only ones that I remember. Quick spool would be nice but not a must have. I dont know anything about the hoslet turbos. I was considering the gt35r setup from punishment as well. With the stroker I have the rev limit set at 8k so topend is nice but not something that will be used much.
I will take a look at the hx40

Took a look at the hx40. looks great, where would i find one with a billet wheel? what would be the sugested turbin housing to get?
thanks

Look around ebay. But I would also look at htturbo or gillet diesel or other diesel truck shop that sells turbos. I think you will find you best deal on ebay with a used core or used turbo with the 60mm wheel already attached. Either way if you want the ability for 650ish whp, you want the 60mm inducer hx40. Billet is optional. You will see full boost by 4100rpms with the 60mm hx40 in the bolton BEP turbine housing with a non-billet wheel.

The regular 8blade 58mm inducer hx40 will spool probably about as fast as the billet 60mm wheel and will be PLENTY for your goal. That is even MORE affordable. They go on ebay all the time for under $500. This compressor flows about as much as an fpred's 60-1 compressor wheel. So this is about 5 lb/min less in flow than the fp3065 on the compressor side. You can always run this standard hx40 and upgrade to the larger compressor wheel for less than $300 later. . .

. . . Honestly the FP turbos you've chosen are too big for your goal. Why have the lag of a 75lb/min FP3575, when you are looking at a sub 500whp build? the FP3065 should be the biggest you get. Which would be capable of supporting over 100whp more than your goal. Plenty of head room. This is why I'm recommending getting a regular 8blade hx40, with the bolt on housing, you'll pay half the money and have 500rpms faster spool speed. It is smaller than the FP3065 with respect to flow, but you can just upgrade the compressor later and have far more flow potential than the FP3065.

What do you want 470whp now with the potential for 600whp later?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I have read threw about 20 pages of the holset thread pt4. I was considering just buying a new one from one of the links u had posted above the compresor maps. the only problem i am having is figureing out what turbos are what from the numbers given. I have a t3 manifold on the car now from the super 20g. i think most of the holsets i have seen on ebay have a t3, but there divided. from what i have read in the holset thread its not going to hurt anything running it on my undivided manifold. I'll just be patient and wait for some one to list an hx40. I was almost thinking about an hx35/40 hybrid with the t3 hotside. I think that would be plenty for my goals.

as far as the 450/500hp goal, I dont think that i am going to go much further than that on pump gas. even to reach those goals i think i am probiblay going to have to get a meth injection kit. funny thing is when i built the motor i planned on having to use n2o to get to my goals so there is a direct port set up on the manifold and i have never even put the bottle or lines in the car. hoping I wont need it, kind of scared of it.

thanks for all your help

I think your goal for 450whp is very obtainable(sp?) with your stroker motor. I have a 2.0 with a FP3052 and my goal is 450whp (on 93 oct). My car will be alot like yours. It will barely see race gas (although I will have a tune for it) maybe a few times a year during our meets at Ennis. I am very happy with my 3052 turbo (have been told that it is the most efficiant gas power turbo) and it is supposed to support up to 520 hp. I dont know how much more HP I will see on a race gas tune so im wondering how close I will be to that number.

If you want to go the holset hx40 route, definately get the t3 Bullseye Power Bolton housing. It is larger than the bolton housing. But you will lose only about 400pms in spool speed. And you have a stroker so you will still see full boost at least 500rpms sooner than 2.0l guys which see full bost with the large bep housing hx40 at 4500rpms. The hx35 has the smaller 12cm^2 divided turbine housing which if you run with and undivided manifold, you will see boost at about 3500rpms since you have a stroker. BUT, the hx40 commonly comes with the 18cm^2 turbine housing. That's a bit larger if you use it on an undivided manifold and it has a t4 inlet not a t3 inlet. That is why I recommend the BEP t3 flanged .70 a/r housing.

The hx35/40 hybrid is a good option because you can use the 12cm^2 hx35 turbine housing with the t3 inlet and have the same spool as the hx40 in the SMALL bep housing. 2.0l guys are seeing full boost at about 4K with the hybrid with the divided 12cm^2 housing with a non-divided t3 manifold. So for a stroker you will see spool 500+ rpms faster! This setup has trapped 132 mph with a stock weight 1g: about 600whp!! So it is plenty of turbo for your goal. You keep the t3 footprint. And have about the same spool speed as a BB turbo of comparable flow and have a rebuildable, reliable journal bearing turbo for about half the cost of that BB turbo. You can get the hx35/40 hybrid new with no turbine housing here: Dodgezilla for only $685. but don't pay their $410 for the 12cm^2 housing. Go to ebay and get a used housing. As long as it isn't cracked who cares how many miles are on the housing? But I really would just get a blown hx35 core with the 12cm^2 turbine housing already included. You can get these for under $200, rebuild them with the larger hx40 compressor wheel for under $300 and have a rebuilt turbo with the turbine housing you need all for about $500.

The other option would be run the bep bolton housing with the standard hx40 and run an adapter plate. You will have the same spool speed as the above hybrid, but have more topend potential and more power at the same boost because of the larger hx40 turbine wheel flow. And the only difference in cost vs. a hybrid would be the cost of the adapter plate. I like this option. Because the lower the boost you can run to reach your goal, the better for pumpgas. You won't lose spool speed and the cost is close to the same as a hybrid setup.

There are other turbo brands out there. I'd look at BW turbos too.

I decided and bought a new holset hx40 6 blade compressor. I will see how it goes and decide if i want the billet wheel later. after i figured out what bep stood for i found there websight. I am planning on ordering a .7ish ar t3 housing. not sure if it will fit with my manifold but its worth a shot. if it doesnt I am thiking about the erl manifold. thanks for all the help and as soon as i get the car back on the road i will put up some results.
