New tranny stuck

I just installed a rebuild tranny in my 2g gst. When all is said and done, With the car on floor jacks. The shifter will not budge when the car is up. I think that maybe they sold me a bad rebuild. Everything is set up correctly and I am really frustrated. Would it matter that the wheels are in the air? Or if anyone has got a clue. I have not taken it off yet due to lack of time at the auto hobby shop.

It will not matter how high in the air the car is, have you tried to turn the wheels by hand back and forth to see if it will help it go into gear?

We need more info? Stick/Auto? Try to operate the shift linkage with the cables disconnected? Input shaft turn?

5 speed stick/ tried to operate with linkage and cables disconnected, input shaft does turn manually, and when car is started it is in reverse with wheels spinning.

Something internally is wrong. Time to take it to a trans rebuilder and have them open it up.
