new to the performance aspect

i have a 97 eclipse gs automatic and at first i just wanted it to be a show car but now i want it to have more power and i didn't know exactly what i could do that would make it fast but without me having to spend too much money. i am definitely going to convert it to a 5 speed but the only other mods i thought of were a star stage 2 turbo and a skunk2 exhaust. i don't know what else would help....any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

It being an automatic and a n/t is gonna be a project alright. That doesn't mean you can't get great perfomace out of it cuz it's been done. You can start by visiting here:

Do not throw on a turbo w/out supporting mods first. Your not gonna improve performance. It's all about tuning and knowledge. Read up on the tech guide it lays it out step by step.

You're going to spend money. If you don't want to spend alot, sell it and buy a turbo model. Otherwise, you're going to have to build the block and head up to make decent numbers (compared to the turbo models). Your compression is much higher than ours so you won't be able to run 15 psi like we do. You can try if you want, but without a modded engine you'll be pulling your motor for a rebuild quickly.
Check out the N/T forum on the site and read up on what people did in there to get good gains in performance. There is a slew of good information from knowledgable people in there.

well then would you guys recommend i look for a wrecked gst that i can pull both the engine and tranny out of and start from there?

Won't work. The cars are set up differently mount wise. You'll spend alot of money still trying to convert the mounts to fit.

what supporting parts would i need for a stage 2 turbo? i dont want the car ridiculously fast i just want it to have some get up

Mainly a new transmission from IPT.

Don't want to spent that kind of bread? Stick with a stage 1. 8 psi MAX, but it'll give you around 75 extra horsies.

throw* some spray? And spray costs $$$. If you really want to keep yourself on a budget and get your car a little quicker, I'd just go with some basic mods. Exhaust,intake,headers, maybe some suspension mods.

does anyone know where i can get a 5 speed tranny for a 420A motor so that i can swap out my automatic tranny cause autos suck
