Hi, just thought id introduce myself real quick...I just bought a 95 GSX, am picking it up this saturday hopefully if I get the paperwork done in time...Anyway this is my first non-american car, Ive been playin with Fieros ever since i got my licence, but I guess I switched to the dark side now :) Anyway Im hoping that this car is easier to work on and doesnt require the entire cradle/engine to be removed just to change a clutch..
Now im not sure exactly why but the previous owner said he replaced the longblock assy, with one from a 90 (6bolt?) whatever that means....Was this done cause it was cheaper to find a 90 engine? or was there some other reason for this?
Also if someone could point me to some good tech articles regarding well..anything usefull to a do it yourself mechanic/tuner...Thanks!!!:thumb:

www.vfaq.com very useful, pretty much just make sure the cars running good, check everything compression, boost leaks, ETC. When it runs it runs..and when it breaks it really breaks!! Enjoy the AWD!!

no but it does require total trans removal.

This is an attempt to avoid "crankwalk" found in 7bolt motors .
The bolt count refers to the number of bolts holding the flywheel to the crank.

your car is evey bit as american as almost any domestic.

welcome to the loony bin ROFL

Thanks for the link!

As long as its coming out the top, its gonna be much easier then droppin a cradle with everything including struts driveaxles....well just everything...But I wont give up my Fiero just yet...that babies getting a 350SB one day :)

Congrats on the purchase. I'm sure you must've found them by now, but in addition to vfaq.com, there's also a great tech section on this site. In the "Tech Guide" section there's an upgrade path. This is the tried and true order that things should be done in to keep everything working properly. There's also a lot of user posted how-tos that will help you get just about anything done on the car that you want to. If there's still something you're curious about, do a quick search on the site and I'm sure it's been at least mentioned before. If you do your homework on this site before asking any questions, people are more than happy to help you out. Good luck!

Nice my buddy has a Fiero with a supercharged 3800 pontiac v6. The thing only has a little over 260hp to the fly but in that car it hauls ass. Fiero's can be pretty cool with a 350, pontiac 3800 or a cadillac 4.9l V8. The only thing is his car has overheating problems because of the messed up radiators those cars have. Welcome to the DSM WORLD my friend. Good thing you owned a fiero because you will be working just as much on a DSM as the fiero.

Yes its the darkside for my group of friends.. :p im a traitor now...

and I have decent set of tools...but do you ever have enough? Could use a bigger compressor..

I also found out from the previous owner that he uses GM synchromesh in the tranny, is this a common practice??? Didnt think that stuff was so great...especially at 13 a quart and not even synthetic...

3800s are nice but weigh a ton...the weight almost outbalances the better HP numbers..but still a good swap...was thinkin of doin it, but after a stupid purchase of a 3.4dohc and later realizing what the hell am i doing putting this POS in i dropped the whole project...

It's the exact same stuff as Pennzoil synchromesh which you can get at autozone for $5/quart. It's highly recommended in our transmissions. Usually synthetic isn't recommended because it's to slippery for the synchros. But BG is another popular fluid choice and it's synthetic, so who knows.
I use the pennzoil because it works great and is easy to get.

Yea his weight transfer is off pretty bad. Is the 3800 lighter or heavier than a 350SB. There is another guy in this town rolling with a 350 fiero. It sounds so nice. Also have a Ford focus with a 5.0 rolling around our town here. It smoked the hell our of me.
