NEW to DSM:Datalogger

Hi guys,

I'm new to the DSM vehicles however I've been a long time racer and avid fan of boost!

I had an 88 Lebaron 2.5 Turbo running mid 12's on 25lbs. of boost and an S-10 with a 383 and ray-jay turbo system running mid 11's.

I just purchased a 91 Talon Tsi and want to start adding some mods. I noticed a lot of people use a pocketlogger/datalogger for tuning these DSM's.

My question is where would I be able to get these datalogger's? Any links would be appreciated or if anyone is selling one I would also be interested.

Personally id buy Jackal for $20 and the link v3 cable for $45. Then when your ready to start tuning you already have the software(Jackal) and your familiar with it.

I looked into it, not a a bad deal. I just have a couple of concerns though. In order to use the Jackal on the Talon Will I need to modify any sensors or switch out any sensors on the car?

Also can I use the Jackal program on my laptop or do I need to get a Palm logger as well?

And lastly the logging cable that you recommended will work with the Jackal program correct?

Just curious because after reading the description it mentioned that it would only work with V3 ECMLink program.

Thanks for all the input I was ready to order the 1glink package to start tuning the car next week but after seeing the Jackal program I am thinking twice about it now and just want to make sure I'm making the correct choice.

Nope, you can use the Jackal logger completely separate from its tuner. The 1g's cant log through the same cable as it tunes with. So the tuner and logger are basically separate things.

Jackal was made to be used on your laptop, so no palm required. To log with it all you would need is to dl the software on your laptop and a logging cable.

Yep, another member has confirmed Jackal does work with the v3 logging cable. And when it says "only works with v3" on the site, i think thats referring to that fact that it wont work with link v1 or v2.

I've used Jackal on 3 different cars now. I love it. Its very straight forward. All the logs are saved in an easy to read excel type spreadsheet. Selecting the parameters that you wish to log is as easy as a click.

The only problems would be that it is set up for only speed density. So you wouldnt be able to log maf readings.

Memphetic is selling the BT adapters now in limited number, but full production is going to start soon, I think.. google mmcdroid. Logging on a android tablet seems like a nice solution. And you're not spending on a 10 year old, obsoleted PDA.

I subscribed to his thread, but no news yet. Has anyone used the ostrich blue tooth adapter yet? I was considering it, but I havent seen anything on how it works yet.

if you are interested in jackal check out ds-map.net it has every bit of information on that site since they are the creators of the program. i run it on my car and will never change

Here is the link I was given for the BT. Whoever does get this let me know how well it works and what the shipping time on it is. I'm really interested in getting this one and am actually stuck on a crossroad now as to whether I should get the BT adapter or Try out both the TunerStein and Jackal on the laptop.

By the way does anyone know whether or not you can use the DSM link usb cable with TunerStein? I've been told it works with Jackal, though.

I need to get the someone here to add some file extensions. So all this stuff doesn't have to be linked to out of site... But, I should note in the write up there are other ADX's( I use a custom one myself) that can be used evident by your Dash there... . I just linked to the Standard one since most people will be logging on a MAF setup more then likely and I doubt the link to TunerPro will go done any time soon.

Wow this is some great info right here. Just gotta get the head back on the Talon, change all the timing components, and get a usb cable that will hook up to both the car and my laptop. Really great post it should help out a bunch of people who aren't sure about getting a pocket logger..Besides the laptop screen is way bigger and easier on the eyes.

I should also mention(aside from there are some other programs) that your not going to be dealing with Say a Palm that doesn't have a SD card and losing the power and your files being gone because you took a corner to fast an the palm flew off or having to sync or storage space. Along with trying to go threw and read a log that is converted to a CVS files Etc ... .
