new timing belt ?

I had to change my water pump so I figured that since the belt was off to change it.
I put the new belt on and when the car is running the belt moves back and forth on the oil pump gear.I put the old belt back on it does not move.So I was thinking maybe the new belt needs to stretch a little and it could be fine. {any answers please thank you}

ya thats weird!! your sure everthing is tight and bolted down.. is it an OEM belt? did you tension it correctly.. i found that you can use a pair of o ring plyers to help turn the tensioner pully to get best tension

It should not move. You are going to have to take it back off and reset the tension on the new belt.

I got the belt from mits. dealer.And I have changed belts from the new one to the old one and the new one always moves.I have changed the belts back and forth a number of times.

ya but how come the old one does not move and the new one does every time I change them back and forth.It is only the new one not the old one.
