I've seen recently that catalytic converters will be required on ALL cars entered at any SCCA rallycross events this year. This includes cars that were not originally equipped with them! Just wanted to give everyone a heads up so no one is surprised at the first event!

They can't make people put on catalytic converters that weren't originally equipped. There has to be heat shielding for the cat if they do that. If they make someone put a catalytic converter on a car that wasn't originally equipped there could be a serious fire hazard. I guess heat sheilds are required as well?

Hmmm, on my Eclipse, the heat shielding is on the cat itself. There doesn't *appear* to be any extra on the car itself. On my MR2, there isn't any additional heat shielding at all (over and above the heat shielding that covers that entire section of exhaust.

Was noticing that there are heat shields on the newer cats. I wonder if a fire does start in that area though, who would be liable?

The rallyx guys have expressed the biggest concern with lighting the actual field on fire, rather than the car :) Who's liable if Grandma parks her Lincoln Clown Car on a pile of leaves and burns down the neighborhood?
