New problem with A/T

Well, bought a new AWD that did not move in reverse or any gear at all. Changed the filter and fluid and it worked great. For 800 dollars i was super happy. Now the car started to rev like neutral between shifts. Now when in D the car stays in first, if i use 2 and get to speed 30-50 and then put it in D it will shift to first. Its also making a weird noise from the tranny, kinda like a buzzing. If i throw it in Neutral or Park the noise goes away. Any ideas?

how long do you suppose the previous owner drove it like this before finally throwing in the towel? you said the fluid smelt burnt right? the filter may have been clogged and the valve body too but they kept driving and now, bands and clutches are toast.

you may be in need of a valve body rebuild, but at this point, i think the whole trans may need rebuilt.

Yes the fluid smelt horrible. The guy said it happened "all of a sudden one morning when i went to get breakfast, i parked it and it has been there since." He was the original owner, and among the maintenance record with the car, there is no history of it being changed or even refilled. When i changed the filter out it looked fine, no metal at all. I even cut it in half to make sure. I have found several transmission's for around 300, would a new used one or a rebuild be cheaper? I am really trying to resell the car for profit and want to keep investment minimum. With only 800 to buy it and 55 for fluids and filter, i believe i can make a pretty penny of this.
