Im 17 and bought a 91 Talon Tsi Awd the main reason I bought it because I love the body style of these cars. It ended up being a night mare I had it for about a month blew up on me. So now im trying to replace the motor or rebuild it. I can't seem to find many sites that have Dsm Motors for sale if any one could help me it would be a blessing thanks.

Well I believe its just the pistons but like I said im 17 and my Step dad isn't the best with cars LOL

Ok. Hmmm... Go find a book one these cars. Sit down and read it, read on here about rebuilds, get yourself a list together, and then it seems like you're in for a tear down. What did the car do when it "blew up" ?

First off i bought this later finding out from a abusive racing team or what ever in Louisville KY. But they didnt have the idle screw in and told me thats why it idled at 2k so i got one and it went down to around 1.5k and went up to 2k. They also didn't have the bov hose going back into the turbo said it made it louder and didn't affect any thing so i left it that way for a while. Then I got the screw and the hose connected and blew the dipstick out thinking it was just the stick being old i got a new one then took hose back off then this.

Ok driving down the highway about 65-70 and all off the sudden I heard a pop so I looked at my gauges and my Boost gauges was going up and down but when id try to give it gas its like struggle. So I was going to get off next exit not thinking it was something huge because it still was kicking( bad mistake). When i was getting off I heard another one and alot of smoke came poring out of the motor got it pulled over and popped the hood. I looked down and he exhaust manifold was cracked so i got it a tow home after taken it home I got it off and i saw down the right of the turbo manifold by the o2 housing it was cracked down and their was oil gone and every where in the motor and the oil dipstick was thrown up.

Ok. I have no personal experience with the dipstick issue, but I have read that that i because of too much pressure in the crankcase. PCV valve may have been bad not allowing excess pressure to be released. As far as your manifold and all being cracked and all the smoke, turbo sounds like it is gone. What you're going to have to do is take the turbo off and do a visual inspection of the fins of the wheel and see what they look like, and check for shaft play. I'm not positive on what the popping noise was that you heard.

If I'm off on any of this, I hope will come and correct me on it. Like I said, I have no real world experience in a motor acting up to this extent. The turbo on the hubby's GST went out, but all it did was smoke, and the manifold had some minor cracking. But nothing like what you're describing. You could also drop your oil pan and see if you've got any debris in there, and that might lead you to what went wrong.

For future reference, the recirculation hose for your BOV (the one going to the intake) should remain in place. And your idle still being screwy after you put the screw back in leads me to think that it could have been adjusted more.

But I think you should start with searching on here for threads about motor's "blowing up" and see what other folks have experienced and see if any of it sounds like what you've got going on. I hope I helped you get started anyway. :)

Youll learn alot on here by reading. An spending whatever free time you have with a wrench in your hand or your face in a manual. You obviously got the DSM bug.. I was scrared outa my mind when my car "S**t the bed". I think a rebuild is much more practical cause it gives you a much better understanding of whats going on inside the engine. I have a good feeling your compression is going to be 0 in atleast one cylinder. But if you have a tester do a compression test. And get back to us with more information

If you feel up to it tear down your engine. it sounds like your head gasket blew or worse. Get a manual and inspect all parts. Then make your decision from there. If your looking for a crate engine try places like slowboy/ams/the dsm graveyard. But if you have alot of time and are interested in rebuilding your own engine buy a combo from either of these guys as well.

You bought a 20 year old car that was owned by an idiot. Assume everything is broken.
Most vendors offer complete motors, or you can get a used one from a junk yard (car-part.com is a decent search for that). Expect to pay 700ish for a used engine, or 1200-1500 for a rebuilt engine.

ok well when I had the exhaust manifold off and the motor mainly still together and took the wires off the plugs the far right exit coming from the head wouldn't blow any like smoke out but the other three to the right did. Then also all of them are coated in oil it was reamed really bad bye old owner but i am dedicated in fixing it because that one month i got to drive it i loved the car

just save some money and buy a used motor from the junk. i was 19 when i got my first dsm. I bought it with a seized motor and got a head and block at the junk for $100. just make sure you test out the compression before you buy the motor. patient is the answer to everything....POWER.
