Well....Im finally starting to break in my car to make it more daily drivable, having some issues right off the bat..

Well, after letting it idle and driving it around my townhouse complex, I finally took it out on the road.....

I pulled out onto a 45mph street right out of my complex and went up to about 3000 rpms, shifted, took second up to about 3000 rpms, then took 3rd up to about 3000 rpms again.....well, My wastegate spring is perfect, i only was hitting 8psi on my e316G so I know thats working, thats not too much boost for breakin is what I was told, just make sure you never take it above 4000 rpms...

Sooo, as im puting load on the motor, going in 3rd gear at 2000rpms, 75% throttle all the way till 3000 rpms, and then engine breaking through all gears to a stop.

Well, while I was around 3k rpms in 3rd hitting 8psi, my engine started smoking, pulled over and my dipstick had shot out like 2 inches and there was a little dab of splash of oil on my heatshield...Well I am 100% sure that this happened because I my dipstick has no top on it, it is just the fact that my distick can drop right in the tube, like I dont even have to push it in, it just falls in..soo, i modified it by crimping the end, and puting a little lock on it, it cant move anymore.

One snag Im having, is when i first got into second gear around 2k rpm, it sputtered a little bit, I mean this motor has everything new so im thinking boost leak??

The second snag Im having is that when I left my driveway, my car idled at 14.6 a/f....When I got back home from my ride, The car was idling at 12.4....I just started it 20 mins ago, it idled at 14.6....then 10 mins later it droped to 12.4...I dont think thats normal....

The third snag im having is theres a "Hissing" noise coming from the rear of the car?? Whats back there that could hiss like a vacuum leak..The hissing is only with car on.

Thanks for your insight, I need this car DDing in 4 days!! Thanks

75% throttle seems like a bit much for break in, especially with boost. I was always under the impression you wanted to try to stay out of boost during break in.

The idle afr issue sounds like a non-issue. I believe that is normal on these cars. Safety programming since our O2 sensors take longer to warm up than heated ones. Nonheated O2 sensors normally take between 5-10 minutes to get up to temp.

Well, 14.6 is the right idling a/f.....so why my car would sudddenly start showing 12.5 as an afr is not right...

And, Ive talked to tons of people and engine shops, they all tell me to put load on the engine...Which mean WOT in 3rd gear at 2-3.5k to seat the rings and put load on the motor, then engine break down to clear the debris from the motor....8 psi is not a problem for breakin, im just wondering about my 3 other problems.

True, it seems to me that they would be reversed so it was a bit richer until everything was warmed up and working right. Then it would back down to the proper mix. I am curious to see what everybody comes up with on this one too.

All I can really think of is something in the tuning (if you've tuned it) or maybe a problem with the ECU or O2 sensor.

Also, have you checked the condition of your plugs? May not be burning everything off.

Might also be related to an exhaust leak. But, it seems like you would have noticed that already. It might still be work checking out just to make sure.

Yeah its weird though, When underneath like the gas tank, rear suspension, I hear like a hissing noise....

I have a brand new punishment open dump, to a brand new punishment downpipe, to a 2 year old thermal RD exhaust and all the exhaust gaskets were put on correctly so no leaks from the turbo to 02 housing, or the 02 housing to downpipe, or the downpipe to cat back..Im puzzled.

Ill bet you the hiss is either an exhaust leak, or if you got into the fuel tank at all, you might not have tightened everything up, or missed something wrong with the fuel tank, that could and would cause the in tank pressure to leak somewhere. Can you smell gas at all when you hear the hiss?

I had a similar problem at idle just recently. My AFR would drop to 11:1 after
a few minutes at idle. I had a bad coolant temp sensor, which was not allowing
the ECU to go into closed loop. Replaced the sensor, AFR returned to normal.

saechao, can you elaborate on the fuel pump...i have a 190 pump, i did not touch the pump at all since the cars been rebuilt, when inside the car I can can definately hear the pump whine, but under the car when the cars on, i can hear a hiss...

My coolant temp sens is like brand new, and yes it is plugged in perfectly...just dont know why my idle would be `14.6 sometimes.....then 12.5 some other times..I jsut thought it was because it was like 30 degrees out...but i had 14.6 a/f when it was 15 degrees out too..Hmm

I broke my car is with 100% throttle running 10psi did a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear pull WOT to about 6000rpms!!
I let her sit and warm up to normal operating temp and went out and did the pulls for the first 20mins of its new life!
Now have 1500miles on it and not a single problem yet! and even tested it once to this duche that thought he was cool in some ugly painted malibu haha

And to the OP
when you start you car especially in that cold of weather you engine will use more fuel to get you engine to its normal operating temp! that could be why you afr drops

Ok. I know im breaking it in right, but the thing is, when underneath the car this hiss sounds like an air leak, like a really loud tire leak..but its constant and never changes tone..

Studders in low second gear

a/f idle is either 14.6 on startup or 12.5 on startup

Oil pressure at idle is 12 psi....gets up to 50psi at 2800 rpms....

Thats what is the the little here and theres.

I was thinking the pump because under the car it sounds different from the muffled sound in the car, are you leaking any fuel anywhere? There could be a very small leak somewhere. I don't think they is any vacuum lines back there.
