Hello all, I have been using this site for a while and thought well I might as well register and start posting. Ok I bought a 90 eclipse gsx with 204,000 miles for 1500$. I was told that it was on the car not the motor. It had problems going into second ( come the fond out the clutch was shot but all other gears worked fine so I don't know if its the tranny ) and it would not go over 5K RPM. But very nice interior no rust new fuel pump. Had it for three weeks changed the oil with lucas and put seafoam in the gas tank, sparkle plugs air can, timing kit. Then on my way to work one morning it started knocking. Then it just quit, after pulling the motor the head was fine but #1 rod sheared off destroying the crank and knocking a giant hole in the block. They said it had a 2nd gen turbo on it. But my question is did I get ripped off? I mean awd with clean body and I plan on buying a stage one shortblock would it be ok to put my stock fuel rails IC and head back on untill I get more money to replace that stuff? All I have is a motorcycle and its cold I need something to get around in or would it damage that stage one? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think this was a mistake. I would not buy a car with that many miles. To me you baught a 1500 shell. I would of spent a bit more on a good car. But you have it. I would try fixing it or parting it out to get your money back. Sounds like you need a new tranny.

Yeah I hope it was just the clutch. But can I put the stock engine pieces on a stage 1 short block? I really like it and never tore down a bottom end before. For about 2400$ I can get all the stuff ie. Oil pump, water pump belt, balance shaft elim. But I do not want to put the stock stuff on just to mess that stage one up. I can't afford another 1400 so this will just have to work for now

Well to answer your question. I have nickle coated forged pistons (running at 7.5 : 1 compresion), forged rods, balanced crank shaft, balance shaft removed, stainless steel valves, titanium springs and retainers, and a high flow fuel pump. Everything else is stock on my car and other than my boost leak i have to find, everything runs great, so you should be fine

To answer your question- No, putting stock parts back on like you mentioned won't hurt anything. With all of the stock parts back reinstalled, you won't really feel any difference Basically, buying a stage 1 is just one step better(stronger) than getting a factory rebuild. It will(should) increase your ability to put more power to it in the future.
You mentioned that someone said it has a 2g turbo on it? if so, I hope they didn't try to sell that to you as an 'upgrade'. The 14b turbo on the 1g cars is bigger. If you already know that, please disregard my mentioning it.
If the car is in good shape except for the motor, i don't think you got ripped off for what you paid. The 2nd gear issue could very well be the shift fork in the trans, that's a common problem for dsm's

Lol they did! They said the j pipe is backwards. Im not the best at motors at least the rods, pistons etc down there but the rest I can handle and buying a short block then building will save me thousands with a lesson learned. I will keep posted on what I get later but right now I just need a car. I can't find the thanks button on this forum so,....

Thanks
