New mani, heat sheild !!

Just thought I would add this.The two front corners were arch welded with s.s. sticks. Aluminum has to be tig welded.

Yeah , I never really looked at the stock heat sheild that closs to notice that there was anything in it , but I beleave it is steel , because mine was starting to rust. As long as there is enough room to breath between the hot object and the sheild (not touching it all over ) it will lower the temp. surounding the hot spot.

Make sure you never get an exhaust manifold leak then. That piece also helps keep heat away from the timing belt cover. I once saw the top cover melt after someone took that bracket off.

To be honest, I never thought of that. Thats a good point. I guess I have been lucky on mine. Both of mine have it removed with no meltage of my timing cover. My GSX doesnt have the the heat shield on top either.

Yeah it shouldn't be a problem, the one I saw melt happened because of a leak at the head. You just have to fix it soon if you get one.
