I have a 1990 Laser 1.8L. just picked it up for 350$ (So Cheap because It wont pass emissions at the moment, and doesn't run right, and its not the pretties to look at because paint is peeling, hood is black Which i dont mind, and the fake front lights are missing..). Owner put a lot of work into it, he rebuilt the motor a few months ago, along with aftermarket Hi-Comp Pistons (or so he says), and it has just sat most the time since, due to other problems he'd thought would be fixed after rebuild...
I drove the car home which was a 45 Min drive, it handled it with out a problem, never puffed out smoke or anything, never over heated either.
The Problem I'm having is it has a bad miss. Cyl 1 comes and goes, but stays out most of the time. dead cyl would kick in and stay for about 5 mins then go out again during cruising.
The Symptoms I have are just strong smell of gas, loss of power and efficiency, and it sounds like a Boxer Engine.
The Plugs + Wires are brand new, the Distributor is clean, w\ new rotor and Cap, I have thick blue spark across all 4 cylinders.
No signs of a Blown Head Gasket, no smoke, no coolant in my oil, and I did a Compression Test and it came out
1: 190 Psi
2: 192 Psi
3: 192 Psi
4: 191 Psi
I have Injector Pulse across all 4 cylinders, Cyl 1 injector seems little iffy as far as the pulse goes, idk how to explain it though just sounds weird through the stethoscope compared to the other 3. The previous owner said the whole fuel system could probably use a change so I'm going to the local pull yard this weekend and pulling Injectors, Fuel Rail, FPR, Fuel Pump, and Fuel Wiring Harness. Hopefully that solves the problem but I was hoping for some Ideas.
The Previous owner also said that the car use to have a EGR Valve but he removed it, Could this have anything to do with it? I'm still learning certain things about cars so bare with me please.
Thanks.
Question: Would Turbo Injectors + Fuel Pump be Bad for my engine? From what I understand it would be fine because they will both only put out as much as the Computer Allows\Tells them too. I would like a 2nd opinion though.
Oh, Also told that the Engine hasn't been fully broken in yet... Dunno if that helps you guys out or not.
Please help me tho.
