Hello fellow dsm gurus!

My name is armando and i just picked up my first dsm! I was into the honda scene and was looking for a change after a few turbo civics and integras, one ride in my freinds gst changed my mind.

For starters i have a 2g eclipse gst.

it has the following mods.

motor: 4g63 turbo 7 bolt
MHI 20g turbo with adapter
gates racing belts (all belts)
timing just done 3000 miles ago with water pump
tubular exhaust mani
short route intercooler piping with huge frontmount
1g throttle body
slim fans with aluminum radiator
aftermarket clutch (dont know brand)
almost all gaskets been replaced
new cv axle
apexi downpipe to the muffler
megan racing short shifter
urethane shifter bushings and all motor mounts
aem air/fuel gauge, oil press gauge and boost gauge
HKS turbo timer
hollman pro MBC set at 17lbs
Greddy RS BOV
aPexi intake
walbro 255 HP fuel pump
fuel lab FPR
RP660 injectors
DSMLink V2
jenson double din
megan racing strut bars front, rear upper and rear lower
balance shaft eliminator kit
Body:130000 on shell,, aprox 10000 on motor
lowering springs
tokiko blue struts all around
16in rota slips with new falken 912 tires all around

97-99 eclipse conversion

new windshield(some dumb kids busted mine in front of my house)

i havent had any major problems with the car yet, other than a puff of bluish whiteish smoke when i'm just cruising?

i'm very familiar with forums and you can find me on d-series.org with a lot of rep points, i'mnot here to bullshit, i'm here to learn!

Well all know blue is oil and white is usually coolant/water. What do you mean by cruising, at a constant speed?

Welcome to the site Armando. First off be sure to search before making new threads because 9 times out of 10 they have been asked before. Anyways does it smoke under boost? What's cruising (Speed & etc)? Give us more details. I would check pcv, turbo for play, oil in coolant first.

they way it pulled drove. the int is really nice

as far as the smoke goes lets say i'm cruising at like 25-35 mph it smokes?

i pulled the intake off of the turbo today to see if theres any shaft play and guess what.... the turbo has a ton of play..... side to side and in and out !!!FTL

so i'm GUESSING thats where my problem is. hopefullly i will try a new snail and see what happens.

It smokes a little under boost, but i think its bc of the tune thats on it.

as far as the gVR4 that was just a mistake

now i will check the pcv today and see if its clogged up...

btw the turbo didnt seem to have any blow by so maybe thats a good thing, but i cant say much for the exhuast side bc i really havent goten a chance to check that out yet.

also i was wondering....i read up on the 272/272 cams and some people were getting a low vac at idle, reason i ask is bc the gst sits at -10 on the standard boost/vac guage.

Was it a MHI 20G or an aftermarket Chinese knockoff?

The most common failure with 20G's such as yours is that owners will feed the oil supply from the filter housing with no restrictor even though Mitsubishi recommends no more than 48psi of oil pressure entering the cartridge. The excessive oil pressure will blow the seals, allowing heat from the exhaust to enter the cartridge and burn what little oil is in the journals. Of course this starts a downward spiral of wear.

Tough to see in this pic, but this turbo suffered a turbine seal failure due to excessive oil pressure which resulted in heat scoring on both the shaft and bearings:

its an actual MHI turbo, it has the three diamons stamped in front of some numbers.

and from what i can see, theres a steel braided line comming from somewhere next to the oil filter....how can i put a restrictor on this bad boy

talking about the oil psi, its usaully at 50, cold start up 75ish.

would it be hard to rebuild this turbo?

"Theres Jackson standing like a stone wall rally behind the Virginian,". I am sorry I had to say that I watched Gods and Generals yesterday and I saw you were from Virginia and had to say that . How does your car run? If it runs bad and is doing that sh1t with white smoke you could have a blown head gasket. Also a broken turbo throws smoke out the back as well. When I had my pos 4g37 it did the same thing and it had a broken head gasket and the fourth cylinder wasnt putting out any compression.

turbo deos have some play in it, as far as the headgasket goes, no issues there.

dont get me wrong this car pulls hard for being on 15 lbs.

the dsmlink is tuned to 17lbs on a safe tune hence running rich.

There are -4AN restrictors on eBay which should fit your supply line, and MHI rebuilds are not difficult...but you must be able to identify parts that are damaged and cannot be reused. With as much play as you're describing, there's a good chance the wheels have rubbed the housings in some way.

If you need some assistance, there's a resident turbocharger expert on the site who can lend some advice. He also has some rebuild guides for all TD05H/TD06 turbos that you can follow:
